October 6

1983 - Thursday - 56° at 6 AM.  Cardinal Cook died.  Only .06 in gauge from last night's thunderstorm.  Fair - cool - beautiful fall day.  To Mass. 
I worked at Ballard Garden 9-12 - stopped for bananas and fruit following for tomorrows picnic lunch.
Wes uncovered pebble path front of garage and spread gravel on it - recovering with grey stones.  I cut grass after lunch - brought in the 2 Ruby Maidenhair Ferns.  Washed car - Wes watered azaleas.  To Mary Luke's for drink at 5:30.

1984 - Saturday - 33° at 6:30.  Up before six - showered - preparations for trip.
Eileen came before 8 o'clock and we left at 8:10 via Routes 84-17-390-90 for Williamsville - there about 4:30 after several stops along way and a picnic lunch.  It was a beautiful day - great color until near Buffalo.  Bit and Kelly had arrived before we reached Joan & Hooker.  Happy reunion.

1985 - Sunday - Beautiful day thank God for our family get together.  Joan & Hooker with us.  To 8 o'clock Mass, breakfast following.  Left at noon for Cold Spring, Hudson House where had reservation for 1:30 brunch.  Met Eileen, Bit, Kelly & Boo there - had [[strikethrough]] ride [[/strikethrough]] sail on "Callagh" - 38' ketch - on Hudson south past West Point - very enjoyable - from three to five o'clock.  Both cars drove to our place where we had soup - salad and cake for birthday and anniversary celebrations.  Tarrytown group left at 9 PM - TV reception poor for last of "Irish R.M."

1986 - Monday - home from Rome-Syracuse.  Eileen & Boo left after breakfast.   Very high wind - uncomfortable to work outdoors.  Lots of leaves down.  To bank & Waldbaum's - no bananas - did wash - put electric blanket on Eileen's bed - lunch - nap - outdoors to cut deadheads - pull up most of tomato plants - all basil - cut grass (very high.)


1987 - Tuesday - in Lock Haven with family.  After breakfast went to Penn State - luncheon at Nittany Inn -very nice place - had a private room - then to Art Museum; saw English drawings and Dutch paintings.  Back at Bit's for birthday and anniversary dinner.
Heavy rain in evening - but day was beautiful.


October 7

1983 - Friday - 46° at 6:30 - Fair, beautiful day.  Eileen came up with Boo at 8 o'clock and we left about 8:20 for Cooperstown.  Routes 84, to Taconic, to #145 - #20 down west side of lake - arrived 12:45 - had stopped at - Cobleskill for picnic lunch - Scenery in Cherry Valley beautiful.
Holmdens - Bit and Kelly arrived - had cocktail in parlor of Eileen's and Bit's room - dinner - loud live music - back to Parlor.  Boo very good - got out in hall twice but quiet.  OTESAGA Hotel.

1984 - Sunday in Williamsville. Cloudy and misty.  To St. Gregory the Great - Mass at 8 AM.  After breakfast to downtown Buffalo - drove around waterfront and then to zoo for Boehm Animal collection - saw bears being fed - to Albright Knox Museum for Homer Winslow's "Croquet" paintings - tailgate picnic - to Darwin Martin House - Frank Lloyd Wright - tour.  Home for dinner.  Watched Reagan-Mondale debate in evening.

1985 - Monday - Family get together time.  Leisurely breakfast with Joan & Hooker - drove to Tarrytown to meet Eileen and Bit - Kelly had left for home.  Our group, in two cars, drove to Bronx Zoo - had wonderful day admiring Park - Bird House -  Sky Ride and Bengali Express - lunch in cafeteria - drove to Eileen's where had short nap and a good dinner.  We reached home at 9:30. 

1986 - Tuesday - 36° at 6 AM.  Dark.  Light at 6:45.  Cold day but beautiful.  Wes to Mass.  I prepared to work at Ballard Garden - Hostas touched by frost there - cut down front beds - good crew.  Home for lunch after a shopping for bananas.  Wes had started on the ditch for electric line to Piping Boy.  He went to Ziegler's for the small blue rug - gas in car and can - tried to buy big pinch bar to take apart raised beds, but no luck.  I pulled out lots of plants touched by frost - dahlias, ageratum - marigolds in perennial garden - not in triangle bed.

1987 - Wednesday - in Lock Haven.
After good breakfast to Williamsport - Lightfoote Inn for lunch - then ride on Susquehanna River in
boat "Hiawatha" - beautiful scenery. 
Back to Bit's for supper - walk dogs - weather had cleared for the boat ride.
Phoned Gizella Varga - learned electricity on again at home.
