October 18

1983 - Tuesday - 48° at 6:15 - Breakfast over.  Mostly cloudy day - a little sun - light rain at 5pm - continued into evening.
To Mass.  153 feet of heat pipes wrapped by workman thru arrangement with NEU - will return Oct 26 to finish.  I planted bulbs - gave some narcissus to Gizella - finished all outdoor ones.  Raked and blew leaves from driveway and wall garden - cut grass - moved some chips to hide bulb planting from chipmunks.  Wes worked in shop had haircut.

1984 - Thursday - 53° at 6:30 - Foggy, cloudy morning, cleared late afternoon for a beautiful evening - warm - didn't need sweaters in the afternoon
To Mass.  To Ridgefield - bank - Brunetti's - Hardware - Stop & Shop - Reclamation - Caldar - wine.  Home for lunch & nap.  I made carrot soup.  Wes had shop hour.  We raked leaves from South lawn - watered transplants on South side - everything very dry and dusty.

1985 - Friday - 38° at 7AM - Boy did we oversleep and enjoyed it.  Beautiful day.  Cool - not cold - sunny. 
Gizella and I arranged flowers for church - took them there.  Wes in shop.  He cut out couple of sapling top of North rock - the dead hickory at compost pile.  GroundKeepers came to pick up brush along road.  We emptied third compost bin on vegetable and flower Beds (they look great) Wes turned #2 into 3 and #1 into #2.  I transplanted into perennial garden (moved) dug up dahlia 
Cut grass to blow leaves.

1986 - Saturday - 37° at 7AM - leaves are almost all colored - beautiful when sun rose - light through the golden leaves.
Put away deck furniture - took off last of screens - put glass in front door - In afternoon worked on Piper Pool - rearranged ferns - buried rocks - brought in one more fern from deer trail and moss from bog
Cut grass.

1987 - Sunday - 58° at 6:30 - Foggy - cleared to a beautiful day - Indian Summer - warm.
To 8 o'clock Mass.
Wes cut off fence post tops on fence extension then tried to get big stone from garden above well where I was planting Narcissus the works - no luck.
Lunch - nap - to McKeons to start Barn Tour saw Corben's on Old West Mountain - Carry's on Ramapo drive in Casagmo - ditto Stonecrest and finally to one off North Salem Road which we had wondered about for years - all very interesting

October 19

1983 - Wednesday - 48° at 6AM.  Raining - 1.1 inches in gauge at 8AM - .03 later but cleared by noon.
Met Bill Kalnay at noon at The Inn - good luncheon - showed him our house following.
Moved couple wheelbarrow loads of chips to South walk - Planted Coreopsis from Wayside.  Walked up to see Grouse's bulldozer had done grading but CLP hadn't connected power line.

1984 - Friday - 52° at 6:30 - Foggy.  Cloudy in morning - cleared some in afternoon - Jule phoned asked to visit next Thursday - said it was raining in Rochester - hope it comes here.  Gizella and I picked up flowers from church - arranged vases for the weekend Masses.  Wes in shop.  After lunch we raked and blew leaves - the story of our lives now-a-days.  I cooked pears for Sunday's dinner - spoke to Jeanne Timpanelli and Terry Keller - they want to go home before the start of Debate at 8 pm.  We were happy.

1985 - Saturday - 56° at 6:10 - Awakened by a loud rumbling that shook the house - helicopter? - thought it must be how an earthquake sounded - anyway got us up.  At 7AM radio said it was an earthquake!  3.8 on Richter scale - center 20 miles north of New Rochelle - no damage.
To Wave Hill for Rock Garden meeting - two good slide presentations - won a dwarf pine - bought 3 plants for top of Wall garden - Ellie gave us a Veronica - admired Wave Hill gardens - bought Wild Flower book - to Eileen's for bread pickup and two Freesia pots - small size leaves - broader than ours - Home at 5pm - good day.

1986 - Sunday - 36° at 6AM - Dark then - sun came over the hill about 7:45 - nice day - cold morning - little warmer in afternoon.  To 8 o'clock Mass - I was Lector.  We started planning for next Sunday's party - set up two tables in den to measure - I cut our old tablecloth in half for them - hemmed edge - put them in bleach as very yellow - took Fuchsia to upstairs bath for the winter - after lunch watered all evergreens on south side - watered the moss around the Piper - pulled out fresh killed plants in garden - some snapdragons & blue salvia.

1987 - Monday - 42° at 7AM - Fog - then cleared by 8AM - beautiful color leaves coming down.
Beautiful day - Wes put boards on fence posts - will attach deer fencing to that.  Transplanted two of the corky bark Eunonymous which were too close to the fence.  I finished planting Narcissus "the Works" - mostly in new area near well.  Cut grass in afternoon - cut down most perennials.
Noticed Little Leaf Linden had lost top in storm.
Black Monday on Wall Street.  Dow lost 508 points
