November 5

1983 - Saturday - 28° at 6 AM.  Sunny cold and beautiful day.  House chores.  
Wes put compost on vegetable beds - we took some behind shade garden - front of Cimicifuga.  I brought down six Spotted Wintergreen from Grouse line to join those near Bonsai Tree.  I shopped Marcus and Waldbaum.  Took a walk to Ned Mountain Rd talked to Fred Allen.  That walk is just under a mile.

1984 - Monday - 55° at 6:30.  Raining - stopped at 9 o'clock - 1 1/2 inches - glad of it.  Party cloudy/sunny rest of day - changed at time very suddenly.
Did wash - ironed - washed floor etc - Wes called Jennings on heat convector in den - came in afternoon to repair.  I planted freezias [[freesias]] - put piggy back plant in hanging basket for kitchen - We cultivated sawdust from cut tree into chips in garden room - raked up millions of acorns - put leaves on pile at bog garden path - raked some over cliff - looked neater.

1985 - Tuesday - Election Day - 48° at 6 am - Rain and wind - water coming into kitchen East slider - had 1.2 inches - glad of it.  Misty rest of day.  
To 7:30 Mass - Voted afterwards.  Diane Crehan running for State Representative to replace Martha Rothman.  Shopped Waldbaum's - Wes tried Sears & another shop to replace burned out motor of drill press - found one at Fine Tool Shops at 20% off - Howard Castle wired it in afternoon
I prepared some of the dinner for the guests tomorrow.  Failed our tart shell.  To Vargas for dinner at 6 pm - Jule visiting them.  Boo eating better - may be the Cortisone - anyway Eileen feels encouraged.

1986 - Wednesday - 34° at 6:45.  Cloudy.
I checked Rosses for package delivery - put Jackson & Perkins in garage.  Wes opened hayloft door, placed ladder against house and we lifted 9 plywood boards into hayloft to cover floor.  Then Wes blew leaves from Wood Knoll - I cut down plants in shade garden - raked debris and leaves - put on compost.  Started snowing lightly but covered ground after lunch.  Hung another bird feeder - lots of birds account storm.  Worked till after 1 pm - indoors in afternoon.

1987 - Thursday - 58° at 6:30.  Cloudy - cleared in afternoon.
Wright Tree men (Ed plus two) showed up unexpectedly - took down three trees along Bog Path (one hung up in another) some damage to Hemlock & Eileen's azalea - we dug out 2 Laurel - Big Azalea & Pagoda Dogwood - cut down several trees over cliff, cleaned up oak over St. Francis - chipped
Howard Castle came with his pipe bender - Wes finished all but end frame on the wood fences North end.  I raked leaves - followed three men raking twigs.


November 6

1983 - Sunday - 34° at 6:15.  Cloudy morning - cold and damp - improved a bit in afternoon so we took a walk then and raked and blew leaves.  Cut down Cimicifuga stalks
Had gone to 8 o'clock Mass - read papers - wrote letters - made out drug form
Had fire in evening

1984 - Election Day - 49° at 5:30 - Partly cloudy - sunny day.  Voted before 7:30 Mass, stopping at Scott's mailbox to give him Country Journal with artist pictures.
I worked at Ballard Garden for last time this season with Muriel Pedersen and Bolie Hoffman - picked up leaf blower from Young's - Shopped Stop  Shop - enroute home.  Wes had bled the kitchen floor heater himself - paid Jennings, worked in shop.  In afternoon he raked leaves at shed area - I pulled annuals from flower bed - leaves from bottom of evergreens at Wall garden - Cut grass - it looks beautiful.

1985 - Wednesday - 50° at 6:30 - Foggy - misty.  End of rain yesterday was 1.3 inches - No more rain but dreary day.  Prepared house and food for dinner guests - to Cheese Shop and Stop & Shop for last minute items.
Electricity off 1 1/4 hours at 1:30 - quite a worry.  Frank Tracy (Anne at her Mother's recovering from D&C) Jeanne and Al Timpanelli here at 5, pleasant evening.  Chicken dinner.  They left at 8:30 - took us almost two hours to clean up.

1986 - Thursday - 39° at 6 AM - Drizzling - cleared in late afternoon.  Half inch rain from yesterday - good.  To Mass.  Wes worked on covering hayloft floor with plywood boards.  I planted forcing bulbs - house chores - watered plants.
Early lunch & nap - To Stop & Shop for groceries - Wes dropped me at Greenhouse to plant bulbs for Preview of Spring Show - he went to Reclamation - Cleaners - Liquor - Youngs & returned for me.  We raked leaves in bog to open paths.  Cleaned pools of leaves.

1987 - Friday - 35° at 6 AM - Fair - Full moon last night - moonlight coming in bedroom window at 6 AM
Cold day - very high winds - Wright men didn't come - too windy anyway.  Hung 100 feet of the black vinyl fencing along road - 50 feet to go - a tough job in the cold - hands froze.
Petey Cerf phoned at noon - received letter on trees - didn't give types of trees - gave amount of $30,000 as total.  She wanted to be sure town wasn't expecting that from her.  Told her of other money town is applying for.
Brought some plants from Solar into kitchen account cold.
