December 27

1983 - Tuesday - 10° at 7 AM - Slept well.  Wes had a good night - 9:30 to 5 AM - Sun 7:19-4:35. 
Sunny morning - cloudy afternoon - no Mass - Father away 
Wrote letters - called Krawchick re Conn. taxes - no action needed - paid real estate taxes.  Early lunch - nap - to Commerce Park Theatre to see "Terms of Endearment" - good - children especially wonderful - bad language in parts. Started reading Russell Bakers' and Len Deighton's Berlin Game after dinner.

1984 - Thursday - 26° at 6 AM - Light snow most of day - not much accumulation here. To Mass - shoveled and broomed snow from front walk. I washed the tablecloth from Christmas dinner - cleaned the oven - sewed on the wall hanging. Wes made several trips to Wickes Lumber for supplies to make cover for the livingroom fireplace - he worked on that all day.
Lots of birds at the feeders - and a pair of Cardinals - first time in this season.

1985 - Friday - 20° at 6:45 - Cloudy until noon, with flurries - then a clear afternoon - flurries again at night. Left house at 9 for church - watered the Poinsettias - to Salem Center where bought 4 parking tickets for Purdy's lot - plenty of space as commuters must be taking vacations - caught 10:23 train to Grand Central - had lunch at Applebees - walked to Caswell Massey for a jar of Lotil - subway to 68th St - Dr. Espy's office at 69th for Wes eye exam - pressure good don't worry about burst blood vessel - subway to Grand Central - saw Ruth Freese - just caught 2:48 train - home at 4:30.

1986 - Saturday - 32° at 4:15 - Cloudy. Wes is feeling better - taking it easy on what he eats.  
Wes waxed woodwork in shop lavatory.  I polished silver - watered upstairs plants - Iris under lights look good but aren't growing much. We took first walk up Bogus - a mile only to start. To Danbury Post Office to mail birthday card to Helen Ross - Marcus for milk.  I put soup made yesterday through the blender - made David's cookies from dough Eileen brought at Christmas - made a rum cake (for Reinwald's expected visit) Finished crossword -   

1987 • Sunday - 26° at 6:30 - Beautiful clear sky - good cold weather day - cloudy at evening.  
To 8 o'clock Mass - Miss the big radio & WQXR - battery radio gets MNR, Monroe Ct - OK. Lazy day - wrote thank you letters - read papers - fixed up investment book - need file folders. Took a 2 mile walk at noon - met no cars - good sunshine.

December 28

1983 - Wednesday - 22° at 7AM - Cloudy. Sun 7:19-4:35
We put wire cages and Ross netting on Azaleas and little Rhododendrons - & wall garden - against deer.  Can only hope they don't eat the hemlock and large rhode's.
Pretty cold toes and fingers - in at 11 o'clock for coffee - freezing rain started - turned to rain as temperature rose to 50° in evening.  Father Tighe's party called off, thank God, as winds and rain were terrific.

1984 - Friday - 28° at 7 AM.  Slept well and late. Dark & gloomy. Sun 7:19-4:35 - didn't see it today.  House chores.  Wes finished box for livingroom fireplace, picking up a roll of insulation from Mike Mannion and cutting off what he needed. We put weatherstripping on kitchen doors.  I sewed on the wall hanging.
To Keeler Tavern at 2:30 to work there from 3 to 5 - Candlelight Tours of Tavern . lots of people despite poor weather - took in $209.- Home at 6 pm - supper & a good fire after a drink.

1985 - Saturday - 29° at 7 AM.  Clear - a light dusting of snow overnight - but a beautiful sunny winter day.  Wes in shop - did a wash - hemmed napkins for desk print tablecloth (made from a sheet) took a walk down Bogus Road - discovered "Dead End" sign was stolen - footprints in snow all around it - reported it to police - lunch, nap - I knitted - finished back of vest & started the front - Wes returned to shop - To Ruth Sharp's at 6 pm for eggnog party - loads of people there - home at eight for a cereal supper - last of "My Cousin Rachel" on Channel 13.

1986 - Sunday - 28° at 6 AM - Cloudy morning - sun out at noon for a mostly sunny afternoon.
To 8 o'clock Mass.  Read papers.  Finished Mohair vest - a big disappointment - too big and stretchy (Kitchen table pen gave out obviously)  Took our walk at noon. Put leaf chips on Cardinal Flowers.  Examined deer fence  all OK. Did crossword in Deal Magazine - couldn't finish. Last Episode of "Paradise Postponed" - enjoyed it. Eileen said Bit & Betsy would visit her New Years - not here.

1987 - Monday - 29° at 7:30 - Boy did we sleep late. Cloudy - Sun (if we saw it) 7:19-4:35. Cold, windy cloudy day - snow predicted tonight.
Called Carlson's re radio repair - will contact us Wednesday - Reversed den rug - cleaned there.  Planted the dozen Paperwhites in the bowl Eileen gave us for Christmas.  To town - gasoline - bought batteries for radio - garbage can - wine and groceries - no nap as reached home at 1 pm.  Did wash - ironed - TR came at 5 pm when gate was closed - he radioed his office - they phoned. Wes went out with 2 bags of refuse 
(Wes put ad in for his welding)
