March 20

1988- Sunday- 29° at 6AM- Cloudy- Spring arrived 4:39 AM. Certainly didn't look like spring as a heavy snow flurry after 8 o'clock mass - more during morning - cleared enough in afternoon for us to take a mile walk. Had a martini at noon, sitting in [[?]], and reading paper. Lovely relaxing day.

1989- Monday. 22° at 6AM. Fair. Walked dogs before breakfast. Sun 5:59-6:08. Spring arrive at 10:28 AM To Mass. Wes had shop time. - I did plant + garden club report in Ballard Garden for Torrey Cooke. Early lunch + quick nap. I went to Greenhouse for [[suienleut?]] planting in squashed pot - shopped for groceries following. Walked dogs. they saw raccoon under birdfeeder - kept them interested + barking for hours. Eileen said feeling better We will take dogs home tomorrow.

1990- Tuesday- 45° at 6:15 - overslept a bit - raining - spring arrives 4:19 pm. Sun (none today) 6:00 - 6:08 Rain most of day - gauge not out. To Mass. Moved plant light and plants from upstairs bathroom to garage - preparing for Eileen's visit. To bank to have forms for electronic transfer of Wes' pension signed - shopped Stop + Shop - food prices high despite what they say about inflation. After lunch Wes worked in shop + read I sewed jacket lining. Shoulders not right

1991- Wednesday - 40° at 7AM. Clear. Sun 6:00 - 6:07
Spring arrives 10:02 pm. Beautiful sunny day. Cold + quite a wind. Did crossword. Wes dropped me off at Edith Meffley's. from there to Olivers with Heidi Regg and Joan Minot - bought weeping birch for Hartford show - looked for other ideas. Wes went to Dr. James blood pressure 180/75 - up a little. He picked me up at Edith's at 1:30 - we bought a sandwich + soup at Cheese Shop. Picked leaves from azaleas at well area. Saw first robin!

1992 - Friday - 22° at 6:45. Fair. Spring arrives 7:45 AM - doesn't look much like it with all the snow. Sun 5:59-6:08. Cleared and sun out so snow melted a lot on roads, tops of birdfeeders, terrace. Did crossword - hard. I took Nancy Carroll Draper, Helen Ross, Anne Tracy, Punkie Scott + Billie Newell to lunch at noon. Took Billie Home. then Wes + I went to Print Shop for copy of Metropolitan letter, S&S, bank, to Ted's clock shop to pick up repaired Banjo - good to have it back. Watched Washington Week and "I'll Fly Away". sad scenes of racial prejudice


March 21

1988- Monday- 22° at 6:30- Fair but very cold and a high wind. After doing crossword to Danbury Hospital where I had a blood glucose test- to bank to put certificate for 2 shares of G.M. Hughes Electronics into Safe Deposit - Waldbaum's - Vacuum Shop for bags for shop vacuum - lunch - nap - I cleaned up plants for Garden Club meeting tomorrow - Wes worked in shop - I made Lemon Pie (Frozen) for Thursday's dinner - did a little knitting. Wes had bought [[boards?]] for upstairs curtains.

1989- Tuesday - 34° at 6AM. about an inch of snow mushed down with rain - road not slippery. Took dogs down road to brook. they had to be pulled! To Mass to bank and to Tarry town to return dogs - Eileen looked better. Home for lunch + nap. Took down dog enclosure and used that wire and the four foot wire to replace rusted deer fence along road south end. House empty without dogs.

1990-Wednesday - 38° at 7AM- Slight snow flurry but clearing - turned into a beautiful day - windy and cooler. 
Wes started clearing out corner of shop - put welding table in garage - will make room for plant light table. 
Castles picked us up at 11:45 - drove to Christophers in Brookfield - we hosted for lunch (catfish) following which Howard drove us thru Redding - stopped at his house - admired their work - home at four. Phoned George Ventris he well cover.

1991- Thursday. 29° at 6 AM. Partly cloudy. Rhododendron all squnched. To Mass. 
Watered plants. Took a walk. 
Put hooks in shed - hung 5 tools. 
Took evergreen (Christmas tree) branches from perennial garden. Picked off little stones from one phlox. Noticed deer droppings (?) on upper grass 
Filled birdfeeders and suet holders.

1992 - Saturday - 28° at 7:15. Sun up. Good to sleep in Sun 5:57 - 6:09. Off and on sun - cold - another snowstorm predicted for tomorrow night. 
Did crossword - hard - finished it at lunchtime. I transplanted the tiny Snapdragons and Salvia Victoria. We cleaned the downstairs. 
Day goes fast. Made an apple cake using Marian Burros recipe - low calorie - yogurt instead of fat.
