April 23

1988 - Saturday - 39° at 7 AM - Fair early AM - clouded up - light rain starting with hail in PM. 
Checked deer fence - couldn't see any break but there were lots of deer tracks around - we think only one and not much eaten - some wild Columbine flowers. 
Took cut roll of Freeman wire and we unrolled half of it on South fence line - heavy and awkward - Took all morning and rain prevented work in PM. To Billie Newell's at 5 for cocktails - Grace Schaefer with her.

1989 - Sunday - 28° at 6 AM - Cold + fair - high cold wind. To 8 o'clock Mass - I was Lector.
Drove up Rt. 84 to Exit 11 to Route 111 at Stevenson to Twombly Nursery where ARGS was holding tailgate sale. Bought one Dodecatheon, 2 Jeffersonia dubia, one Dicentra cucullaria 2 Juniperus compressa - one Rhododendron Roseum Pink - home at 11:30 - Planted them after lunch + nap - Put sick Rhodo at shed path.

1990 - Monday - 48° at 6 AM - Fair beautiful day warm - NYC up to 84°. To Mass. Took #23 squirrel away. Ventries didn't work - disappointing.
Wes chipped more leaves - set big flagstone at garden steps - religned stone walk side of shop. I cut grass - Transplanted tomato, cosmos, marigold plants into larger pots. Planted prunella in shade garden. Moved Solomon seal and Iris cristata from compost path - white Trillium coming out.

1991 - Tuesday - 44° at 6 AM. Fair - beautiful day. To Mass. Wes went for a haircut - Milk at Marcus - I cut the grass - deadheaded some Narcissus. Picked flowers for Garden Club Meeting - won first for Leucarpum + Tulip Helen Lewis took Nelen [[Ros?]] + Me to lunch at Elms and then on to meeting at Betty [[Snelleugs?]] house on Nod Road [[Hower?]] arranging demonstration - home at 5:15. Wes had cleaned North Slope of leaves. Carolina Rhododendron [[lola lettle?]] ones, out beautifully. 

1992 - Thursday - 58° at 6 AM. Dense fog - cleared to a beautiful day - best in a long time. Warm - To Mass. Transplanted Snapdragon into larger pots - put them + the Salora Vietaria out under the [[limber pine?]]. Eileen came at 10:45 with more lettuce - [[radeachio rocquetle?]] and corn salad. We went to Three Bears in West port for Texace luncheon - back here at 5:15 - Eileen left after we walked dogs. Wes took a nap. I planted the lettuce - uncovered Patridgeberry along deer path that had been covered with Ross netting against deer. Put half the Radicchio in upper bed + brought down Happy [[Raturus?]] day lilies

April 24

1988 - Sunday - 42° at 6  AM - Foggy - cleared but very cold and windy - not an outdoor day. To 8 o'clock Mass - Marcus for milk + butter following. I made Tavern Bais and Coffee cake (for Ballaid crew) Wes in shop. Toney Ongaro here to go over stone work behind shade garden and at well. To Rosses at 6:20 for dinner. Punkie Scott + [[Dathes?]] Tighe there - Millicent Settles head to go to Hospital. cause unknown until tests tomorrow. 

1989 - Monday - 30° at 6 AM. Fair. but a very cold strong wind - very driping. To Mass. Wes started digging a ditch under fences at shed + will level the area. I went to Stop + Shop - bank - picked up bag of Balls Mix at greenhouse - checked on Ballard Garden - sure needs work. Home to help Wes put in two new Juniper Compresa with others at wall garden - our little forest. After lunch Wes cut off remaining stems of big tree on Wood Knoll - moved cotoneaster there. I moved Solomon Seal to get it out of Tony's way for new wall - dug up some of crocus outside fence and put them along walk outside shop.

1990 - Tuesday - 44° at 6 AM - Clear - Some fog in hills - high clouds later in day. To Mass. I worked at Ballard Garden - first time this season - good crew came home at noon with ribbon grass (planted along road) and silky dogwood, gift of Sherryl Taylor, planted in holding bed. Wes finished chipping leaves near compost - set two stepping stones west entrance to wild garden [[Ventreses?]] didn't work Pat of [[Howzon?]] Foods. came. I bought chicken and scallops. Hubble Telescope launched safely.

1991 - Wednesday - 44° at 6:45 - Cloudy - light rain about 2:30 - didn't have to go inside until 4. Wes brought down Wright wood chips for the wild garden put on remaining Hollytone. To Post office for stamps - 29¢ letters 19¢ postcards - picked up stationery at [[Minutehon?]] Press - Shopped at Stop + Shop - bananas 79¢/lb - bought 3 [[Kureune Agolea?]] - planted them on South slope - I transplanted some Narcisse to better locations

1992 - Friday - 50° at 6 AM. Cloudy - Rain predicted for tonight. To Mass. Decided not to do crossword to start on cleaning leaves in Azalea section. Transplanted Azalea Vaseyi lock in there section - moving one spreader (after cutting off deer damage) to road side of big rock. Moved leucothoe near Clethra to same section and brought down from the holding bed the [[clentsin?]] to finish that section. cleaned leaves from all the shrubs there - loads of them. Andy Vill spread fertilizer on lawn and shrubs. Dug up Rodgersia and took it to Joe Keller - walked around his garden - new [[fills?]]. Went to back + Sonoma for ginger before lunch.
