May 1

1988 - Sunday - Brandywine River Hotel - to 8:30 Mass at St. Cornelius - then to Hagley Museum and Eleutherian Mills. Beautiful day - enjoyed the tour and garden. Had lunch at a nearby mill catered by the Hagley volunteers - to Brandywine Museum. Eileen & I walked on river trail - left for home at 3 pm - arrived about 7 pm - good trip. Eileen stayed for the night.

1989 - Monday. 54˚ at 6 AM. Very foggy. Wes had upset stomach during night but up for breakfast. 
I went to Mass. Wes waited for Tony Ongaro. Came at 7:45 to start well behind rhododendron/pieris garden. I went to Ridgefield town - cut off Leucuum at Memorial Garden - bank and Stop + Shop - bananas are 69¢/lb. Home for lunch - transplant Artemisia - Pink Yarrow. Put most of Shortia at Piper along dell path. Wes started Piper Pool after cleaning it - worked at new fence grading upper grounds. Seedlings spent day in Solar. I cut grass - light rain at 5 pm.

1990 - Tuesday.  52° at 6 AM - Partly cloudy - cleared to sunny. quite warm day. No Mass as prepared for work at Ballard garden - Muriel Peterson at GCA so I took goodies Only Edith Miffley & Sandy Corcoran worked - Home at twelve thirty Ventries had finished well edifice - good looking. Wes had turned over new end of shade garden - edged compost path. 
Wes edged perennial bed - I cultivated. Picked leaves from azaleas in well garden - some in poor shape with winter burn. 

1991 - Wednesday - 54° at 7 AM - Foggy - cleared to a beautiful day. Deadheaded Narcissi - moved last 2 of Eileen's astilbes - dug out Cimicifuga growing into wildgarden path. Lillian Willis picked up the 16 small evergreens we are donating to Garden Mart. 
Wes started breaking up heavy wood/boards at shed - I cut grass. Wes worked on right garden room path 
Stiff and tired but things are looking better.

1992 - Friday - 45° at 6 AM. Cloudy - off and on sun - few drops rain at night. Wes took Honda to shop - big job, including brakes, $411.- back at noon. 
I made cookies - watered yesterday's transplants.
Wes picked up leaves near shed - I put Ligularia Desdemona in pots to give to Garden Mart - planted the Thalictrum in back portion (shade garden) planted the 3 Cimicifuga ramosa Atropurpurea Andre Viette delivered (instead of Japonica 'Acerena') Wes brought down soil - I took pails of compost for transplanting (Riots in Los Angeles following not guilty Verdict Rodney King case.

May 2

1988 - Monday - 42° at 7 AM - Home from Keeler Tavern trip - Eileen here thru breakfast - she left at 9:15 to pick up dogs from Silver Lake Kennel. Off and on light rain and cold - not good outdoor weather Wes in shop - I fed Hostas and Hemerocallis cut down by the door. Dug up bleeding hearts and Corydalis lutea behind shade garden - where Tony will put in stones. MLG here on Solar shades - signed up for a track system. Put telephone & medicare check in bank.

1989 - Tuesday - 47° at 6 AM - Raining - heavy at times - 1 3/4 inches before ending about 1 pm. No garden work at Ballard - will go Thursday. Wes went to Mass - I phoned Ballard ladies. Wes took Alex Ross to his hair-cutter. I ironed - worked with plants. Martini at lunch to celebrate rain. Out after nap - I moved some Forget-me-not to Piper - cut old fern frongs [[fronds]] - left some Snapdragons and Ageratum out overnight. Wes finished grading at new fence. Naturally Tony Ongaro didn't work. 
Raccoon stole suet twice - in day light!

1990 - Wednesday - 52° at 6:30 - Fair, beautiful day, not as warm as recently. 
Wildflower walk here at 10 - only three came - Edith Miffley, Laura Sevenson & Sandy Corcoran - we were glad. 
Mr Ventres and son installed new doors at laundry. 
I had a haircut. Wes cleared holding bed area - cut grass there. I cut the other grass. Trimmed winter salted frongs [[fronds]] from Christmas fern at well area - put leaf chips. Place beginning to look better. Leaves coming out. 
Two squirrels around - one gets down to tube feeder. 

1991 - Thursday - 50° at 6:30 - Sunny - partly sunny and cloudy and a cold wind. To Mass. 
I worked at Ballard Garden with Muriel Pedersen and Heidi Riggs - the sun dial was erected by Parks & Rec. 
Home for lunch. Wes had finished clean up at shed, putting lots of the wood down the deer trail to decompose. Wes also put a stone edging on Piper path. I edged the perennial garden - moved coreopsis sunray together - moved all Stella D’Oro to one spot - put Narcissi in Daylily bed.

1992. Saturday. 56° at 7 AM. Cloudy - 
Wes repaired the ground under the Audubon feeder - dug up by squirrels & raccoons - put flagstone under it 
Also repaired ground under open-bottom feeder. 
We shopped S&S for salad fixings for gathering in honor of Millicent & Mark Sattler - Derby Day - at Jane Jessup's. Helen Ross came here at 4:30 and we were at Jane's 5/9 - Helen spent the night with us. 
Very warm day - thunderstorm at night - .30
