May 19

1988 - Thursday - 54° at 6:30 - Cloudy - windy. I walked dogs at 5AM! Did  ironing. 9/10 inch rain in gauge. Guy & Kelley to bring Eileen home from hospital Guy spent nite with Eileen. Wes had shop time - rain all day Kelly and I took dogs to Eileen's house - then to Phelps Hospital - Eileen released - took her home in Kelly's car - her door opens wider than our Honda - got Eileen settled in her room - Kelly picked up sandwiches for us - then she left for Carolyn's - walked dogs -  did chores for Eileen.

1989 - Friday - in Washington. With Eileen on Federal Garden Clubs Garden Tour - To National Arboretum - Very attractive garden at Information Center - good Herb Garden & Bonsai - tour by fee - some parts of grounds not well kept as funds cut - luncheon by Washington group of Federated - to Dumbarton Oaks - beautiful gardens by Beatrix Farrand - back to Holiday Inn for dinner by ourselves - taxi to Vietnam Memorial - very touching. walked back to hotel - lots of exercise

1990 - Saturday - 48° at 6 AM. Partly cloudy - cold wind in morning - nice evening.
Garden Mart Day - Wes dropped me at Ballard at 8:15 - picked me up at noon. I worked in Greenhouse Perennials - bought only Lobelia. Wes had cut brush along road We voted against most of budget enroute home. I planted Tomatoes & Basil in top holding bed. Noticed lots of weeds. To 5 o'clock Mass.

1991 - Sunday - 46° at 6 AM. Fair. Cold night - Good for shrubs holding their blossoms. To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes put on more leaf mulch - I cleaned walks. Mary & Eileen here at noon - took them to The Arch for Mary's birthday celebration - very handsome restaurant - good food & service. Eileen & Mary left for home from there. Wes put new bracket on tree. I transplanted small Aguilegias, Bleeding Hearts, Astilbe to Holding Bed from shade garden. 

1992 - Tuesday - 49° at 6 AM. Fair - beautiful day. To Mass. I worked at Ballard in thee morning Wes edged the Viburnum bed - picked up Freddy Frog repaired from Mr Gust and reinstalled it. I mowed grass. Wes cut grass on cliff edge. I cut deadhead from two Carolina Rhododendron, the little ones, and the Schlippenbachi

1988 Friday 55° @ 6 AM Raining. Worked in shop Joined Guy @ Eileen's about 5 PM Had flat tire in morning - fixed @ Kovac's S.Street
G with Eileen who is getting around with a walker in her house. Walked dogs - shopped etc. Managed to wash Eileen's hair at kitchen sink - she is trying to arrange for help - everyone short of personnel.

1989 - Saturday - in Washington with Eileen at Federated Garden Club tour.
Morning at Hellwood - estate of Mrs Marjorie Merriweather Post - owned now by Smithsonian - after riding enroute past embassy gardens - luncheon at Hogates (on river) afternoon at Smithsonian Castle Gardens -(Mrs Haupt) Being renovated - To 5:15 Mass at St. Dominic's. walking distance of hotel - taxi to Union Station - beautiful a good dinner after a long wait -

1990 - Sunday - 49° at 7 AM - Cloudy - small shower overnight - Not a bad day at all - Cool but not the predicted rain. To Twombly Nursery in Monroe for Rock Garden tailgate sale - bought a Japanese Jack in the Pulpit from Ellie and 2 Azalea Sparkle from Joel Springarn - Viburnum Shasta - Cornell Pink Azalea - Alberta Spruce, Caryopteris - Mazus reptans from the nursery. Home to plant them all after lunch - put leaf chips around - looks good. 

1991 - Monday. 44° at 6 AM - Fair - became warm - had to take off sweaters. I met Heidi Riggs at Greenhouse to pick up plants from Hartford show - gave Japanese fern to Joan Minot. Rest of day worked around place - Wes continued cleaning paths - brought me loads of leaf mulch for "Joe's Garden" I cultivated shade garden. Cut all grass, including holding bed dug. Brought down deck furniture. Hung Rabbit’s Foot fern on chain in garden room. Cleaned out plants from garage plant light - put baby roses in Kitchen.

1992 - Wednesday - 45° at 6:30. Fair. Wes cut out more grass from lawn/dell path - put rest of wood chips on it. I went to Mall for a permanent - lot of time & lot of curls! We put leaf chips on dolls eye bed off house/shed path. I planted all Dahlia roots from box in crawlspace. Moved Aster Purple Dome down from holding bed to sun garden. Cut off blossoms of pussytoes to prevent seeding. Watered tomatoes in top bed.
