May 27

1988. Friday - early morning at Eileen's - to Alter's for bread - Nielson's for Impatiens - Begonias - Fushia (pink) geraniums - home - house very cool although a hot day - Wes cut grass - went to bank - trimmed branch from Cornus Kousa and Hemlock on South side - sprayed Eileen's small white Azalea for white fly and mughos for worms - I planted couple tomatoes in pots & in raised bed - some cleome - snapdragons - moved Japanese Painted Ferns from below shade garden to garden room area.  

1989 - Saturday - 62° at 6 AM - Beautiful morning Garden Tour Day! It wasn't - rain about noon - half inch - tour postponed until tomorrow. Two ladies showed up who hadn't received the word, so we had a practice walk around. Did more weeding - spread leaf mulch - trimmed - planted Winterthur Primula Japonica in Wild Garden - they were delivered last evening Raccoon comes everyday. We almost out of suet - hard to see the woodpeckers looking

1990 - Sunday - 49° at 6 AM - Cloudy early - Then cleared beautiful until 5 o'clock - cloudy - small shower at 7. To 8 o'clock Mass. Watered yesterday's transplants. Early lunch - nap - picked up Alex and Helen at 2 - to Miles [[Aborn's?]] for a country buffet - primulas - buttercups - azaleas and rhododendron beautiful - lots of people - mostly strangers - good food but slow coming Alex very confused - home at 6:15. Read papers

1991 - Monday - Memorial day - 60° at 7 AM - Foggy - until 10 AM - then sunny warm & humid. I wrote Joan Lee Faust re Wild Flower Connecticut (answered her) to Sheila O'Connell - recipe for her book for Christopher's wedding - contributions etc. Wes made stone curb right side of holding bed step path. I transplanted seedlings from shade garden to holding bed - watered many plants as to dry - transplanted wood anemone to join others on last slope - dinner on deck - Phoned Castles - Howard in hospital - cancer of pancreas. 

1992 - Wednesday - 48° at 4 AM. Partly cloudy Sun 5:29 - 8:17. Off and on day, sprinkles at times - no hoped for rain. Wes cut off Mugho Pine candles - I planted rest of onions - couple of zucchini and rows of beans. To bank and Innovation Luggage where bought piece of luggage. After lunch to Chambers Army and Navy Store. - Wes and I bought pants. Did a little cultivating in perennial garden. Early dinner To 7:30 Mass for Ascension Thursday.

May 28

1988 - Saturday - 54° at 6 AM - Fair - became hazy and muggy. 
To Reclamation. Young's for Peat - Stop & Shop & Liquor Home to continue planting plants grown from seed and Geraniums from Neilson's - Wes raked up Sunflower seed shells under bird feeder wire - never again - will use shelled! 
Carolyn & Pete took wicker table & 2 chairs (Solar) Wes had left armchairs at Salvation Army - new chairs delivered by Roberts - look elegant. Thompson picked up brush. 

1989 - Sunday. 50° at 6 AM - Fair - beautiful day - To 8 o'clock Mass - I was Lector. Garden Tour Day. Swept walks again - wind bringing down oak drippings Wes put boards on Wildflower Walk - the wet part. People started coming 1:45 - stayed until 4:30 - don't know how many as came in groups and hard to keep track. We thought everything looked good - had many compliments. 
Relaxed in evening - phoned Holmdens - Hooker doing better. 

1990 - Monday. Decoration Day - 50° at 7 AM - Foggy Became a beautiful day - a real holiday 
Wes brought down more soil mixture for the wildflower bed - I planted the remaining Lobelia Illumination there and a dozen in the shade garden. Wes moved Honeysuckle bush along upper path and I put Clethra raised from a cutting in its place. Muriel came for the Lobelia Illumination and Solomon Seal for Zone II Meeting - also flower for Edna Johnson to arrange for that meeting.

1991 - Tuesday - 70° at 6 AM. a very warm and humid day. To Mass. To Youngs for birdfood - discovered Pella had moved to Norwalk so drove there to talk about wood front doors - will cost $2482! Reported that to George Ventris who will investigate Anderson. I went to Garden Club meeting at Christine Lodenrek’s plant exchange - I came home with coreopsis "Moonbeam" - Wes had put leaf mulch on area in front of Viburnum Path. 

1992 - Thursday - 42° at 6 AM - Fair. Worked at Ballard Garden in morning. Wes put up the plastic Rose holders - 3 of them - continued clearing leaves from east slope - I cut grass - staked some Aquilegia - edged Ribbon Grass at St Francis Watered vegetable bins up north cliff. 
Beautiful day - good for working outdoors
