June 22

1988 - Wednesday - 60° at 6 AM - HHH - The worst day in this spell despite the cool night 
To Mass. Finished fence up road - rolled up two of former fence - checked wire - some goes to T.R. Wes worked on method to attach fence to upper gatepost. I cut north grass - watered- planted the Astilbe - Ladies Mantle and Heuchera Joe Keller brought us. Very warm at night. We have been eating on deck these evenings

1989 - Thursday - I was in Tarrytown with Eileen - Walked dogs - washed sheets + towels - cut grass. Wes in Ridgefield - he came to Tarrytown to pick me up - left there at 11:15 - picked up sandwich and ate it alongside Titicus Reservoir. Home for a nap - started to plant begonias brought from Bailey’s when heavy shower came. Went to Stop + Shop - gasoline at Mobil - visited Bleckwehl - 5 day old Chelsea Bleckwehl - Kelly there.

1990 - Friday - In Seattle for AHS meeting - Continental breakfast - talk on Alpine and trees + shrubs in Northwest Gardens - bus to Weyerhaeuser Company's grounds - Rhododendron Species Foundation Garden - alpine and Pond Garden - Bonsai Collection - bus to Lakewold - 10 acre site on Lake Gravelly, south of Tacoma, beautiful garden - swimming pool - (Mrs Wagner’s home - she is sister of Mrs Bloedel) bus to hotel for Awards Banquet

1991 - Saturday - 65° at 7 AM - Partly sunny/cloudy light sprinkles in PM - didn’t have to stop work. Did a wash - ironed. To Young’s to pick up 2 bags of birdfood at special price - strawberries at Stop + Shop. Home to find Federal Express had tried to deliver our new Visa cards - expected Monday. They returned when we were napping - left cards at Vargas. Wes took out roof of holding bed area - I replanted New Canaan entries
Mark Sattler died of heart attack. Poor Millicent - she is the one who is very ill - and very brave.

1992 - Monday - 54° at 7 AM. Fair. Squirrels murdering "Swing Time" Fuchsia - got out BB Gun - no hits - Turned gray + gloomy - Soup for lunch. Redid paths thru shade garden (W's notes) 
G - Left Steamboat Springs, Colorado, at 8:30 for Dinosaur National Monument - fascinating excavation - To Vernal where lunch was served at Weston Plaza Restaurant. Crossed Utah border into Wyoming traveling thru Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area - gorgeous sights colored rock - lakes - to Rock Springs - Best Western Outlaw Inn. Dinner at Inn by ourselves.

June 23

1988 - Thursday - 78° at 5:15. Up early to take entries to New Canaan Show. Very warm night - no rain To Louise McKeon's at 6:45 - from there to Greenhouse to pick up Torrey Cooke's arrangement + on to Waveny to New Canaan Show - Louise won first for delphinium -+ Honorable Mention for 2 other exhibits - I had HM. for Heliopsis - Light rain - Not what we needed - delayed Wes in finishing fence at upper gate - did get it closed in by evening - I watered - we put leaf mulch on bed off deck to north. cool evening - too cold for deck

1989 - Friday - 70° at 6 AM - Foggy - damp - cleared to a beautiful day - warm - shower after dinner To Mass. The Rosses gave us "Exotica" bark to find names of succulents for Garden Club Show. Wes took out anemones growing in Juniper on entrance bank - put them on north slope I planted Begonias - Impatience - Lobelia brought from Tarrytown. Cut lawns. Deadheaded rhododendron - pruned those around Garden Room. Wes worked on holding bed area, grubbing out brush

1990 - Saturday - Left Seattle on Air Canada, BC. flight to Vancouver 10:15 - 45 minute flight - taxi to Westin Bayshore Hotel - "Limited" view of Harbor from room but comfortable room. hotel good looking inside - good Garden Restaurant - loads of Japanese tourists - took city tour - lots of new buildings since our visit 18 years ago - Stanley Park and Queen Elizabeth Park (at least seven brides) wonderful market - Granville. Mass at 7:30

1991 - Sunday - 59° at 6:30. cloudy - damp - dreary. cleared later to a beautiful afternoon/evening. To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes worked at bank book balancing (difficult this month) paid contributions. I deadheaded staked some plants Called Mary + Bit - Joan had phoned yesterday going to Rochester for Julie's graduation - Phoned Marion [[Cained?]] - now with her son Barry, having sold her house in Pleasantville. We went to Weir Farm at 4:15. interesting to see. stone walls + foundations - didn't stay for art program. 

1992 - Tuesday - 55° at 7 AM - Clear + cool. Mother Red-Bellied feeding baby. also Downy. To Mall Cleaners with jackets + slacks - Weeded East path - well to East slope. Set traps for squirrels - caught chipmunk. Waffles for lunch - Dinner with Vargas - salmon! (These were Wes' notes) 
G - morning at Rock Springs - Breakfast at pool patio - luggage picked up at 8:45. Talk by Andrew Pierce at 9, with slide of wildflowers of Rockies - bus left at 10:30 for Pinedale where lunch was served at Stockman's Restaurant - continued on to Jackson Hole - Spring Creek Resort - 2 1/2 miles up mini-mountain. Dinner in Conference Center.
