July 8 

1988 - Friday - 68° at 6 AM - Hazy - H - H. Terrible weather - really felt it today. 
I had a haircut at 9 AM - then to Katonah Publishing Co - ordered invitations for October 8th - to Pinchbeck to order 10 bags of mini-chips - to Stop & Shop & Liquor - Dewars $25.75 for 1.75 liter - Wes says will not buy anymore. Lunch - nap. Then watered - To Tracy‘s at 5:30 for drinks - first there. Thought we had wrong night. Thunderstorm at 10 pm- rain! Hope it keeps up. 

1989 - Saturday - 68° at 6 AM - Fair - humid morning - much better in afternoon. 
Wes dug up one of Drooping Leucothoe from well garden and put it atop big rock. We also moved the 3 pancake azaleas from the well garden to the Hosta/Viburnum area. Wes worked in Dell - pulled out a lot of berry bushes. I deadheaded - finished weeding along road below mailbox - cut north grass.

1990 - Sunday - 55° at 6:30 Partly cloudy Good sleeping last night under an extra blanket. Sunny morning - cloudy afternoon. To 8 o'clock Mass. Worked around place. Wes brought 2 wheelbarrow loads of leaf chips - I put them on shade garden. Wes finished weeding north slope path and watered the north slope. I watered holding beds - tomatoes forming Groundhog has eaten beans there - saw him in lettuce at suppertime. I cut south grass. Woodpeckers feeding their young at suet.

1991 - Monday - 70° at 7AM - to be H H H again - took cuttings from Rhododendron Wilsonii for the propagation workshop. Went to the Green house for that workshop - planted the rhododendron - 2 Halesia - 2 Wingate  Home at 11. Wes had moved big stone from under Hemlock South Side - too big to move it far - he took out stumps at cliff. Watered wood sorrell - viburnum path - daylilies. Looked like a storm during day but none

1992 - Wednesday - beautiful morning - warm and humid all day - clouds in late afternoon
Wes almost finished north end of road deer fencing  I did a wash. Covered shrub border near well with leaf chips. 
To Clares Nursery after lunch/nap - bought 2 Frances Williams Hostas - have idea to remove azaleas overgrown at Garden Room entrance & replace with Hostas. Also bought Impatiens

July 9

1988 - Saturday - 70° at 7AM - foggy. Thunder Hope for more rain. 5/10 inch in gauge - Wet under trees - first time in ages - at end of morning had 9/10 - good. 
Washed - ironed - made frozen lemon pie for Sunday cleaned house.
Deadheaded and staked in afternoon - glad to see everything wet. Very humid when sun came out but cool in evening - thunder but only a little rain. 

1989 - Sunday - 56° at 6AM - Better sleeping last night - I have cold/cough. The Red Bellied Woodpecker comes occasionally to eat under the bird feeder - the Cardinal is there often. To 8 o'clock Mass. Worked around grounds - Wes clearing right side of big north rock - borrowed Varga's long handled pruner (our's is broken) and trimmed - cultivated - deadheaded.

1990 - Monday - 70° at 6AM. Cloudy - Caught the 8:54 train to Grand Central - to Dr. Espy for Wes’ eye exam only to learn he was out of town - terrible - made no other appointment - decided to switch doctors to one in Ridgefield. Caught the 11:50 train home. Lunch & nap. Very warm afternoon. I cut north grass and deadheaded and staked. Wes weeded the myrtle bed. Thunderstorm at 4:30 but only a few drops of rain - too bad - need it.

1991 - Tuesday - 66° at 6AM. Fair beautiful day. Too bad no rain last night. To Mass. I worked at Ballard Garden in morning. Shopped Hay-Day for corn enroute home. Geoge Ventris and son started installing new front door. Wes took out one more stump at North top and started on the last - a huge one. I watered Dolls-Eye garden - Garden Room - carried water to Cardinal Flowers - watered couple Rhododendron.

1992 - Thursday - 65° at 6:30. Dark- rain over night - 1/2 inch. [[strikethrough]] To Mass [[/strikethrough]]. Became sunny and very warm and humid. To Mass. Did crossword. To safe deposit box - put in CPC and Ford Holdings Certificates - milk at Marcus. Cut grass in afternoon - staked up Thalectrum and Cimicifuga - moved lots of Cleome! don't know whether they'll survive in heat but had to separate them
Wes released inside wire (new wire on outside) from part of fence near mailbox - folded it for TR - cut dead branches from dogwood  East Wood slope & limbed up birch there.
