August 1

1988 - Monday. 68° at 6 ZM. Foggy - HHH Day - Wes continued grubbing at holding bed - discovered good, deep soil at a proposed location after taking  out many small stones. I went for gasoline - bank and Stop & Shop - needed suet as we have lots of wood peckers. Put leaf mulch on places where had put in ferns & Euonymus recently. To Billie Newell’s at four for a swim - very refreshing. Cocktail & dinner on deck - not bad there - not as humid for sleeping - didn’t use fan

1989 - Tuesday - 63° at 6 AM. Cloudy - became mostly fair - quite warm. Wes went to Mass. Worked at Ballard in morning, shopped Stop & Shop for bananas. Wes worked clearing top of big rock (north end) Also watered rhododendron and azalea, on north end wood knoll. I deadheaded, watered south rhododendron - transplanted hostas. Picked enough blueberries for breakfast.

1990 -Wednesday - Beautiful day. Too bad we didn't get rain. Holmdens with us. 
Left at 9:30 for Montgomery Place, Red Hook - on Hudson River - met Eileen and Bit there - tour of house - did garden and walk to cataract by ourselves. Picnic lunch - picked peaches - hard! Home at 4:30 - nap - Wes cooked kebobs on grill - ate on deck.

1991 - Thursday - 60° at 6 AM. Fair - to be hot - it was - and humid. To Mass. Wes dropped me at the Mall for a haircut - he went to Nutmeg  for bar oil. Bought bananas and gasoline for the can. Then he took down the two Ironwood trees at front fence. I cut up the white pine behind the mailbox (limbed it up) Spent rest of day cleaning up the debris, started the rhododendron garden watering again. Took the telephone companies dividend to bank. Bush & Gorbachev signed treaty on lowering arms.

1992 - Saturday - 62° at 8 AM. Sunny, everything looks clean - beautiful day - windy - Lots of sticks down. Relaxing day. No obligations. Worked on crossword - finished it at cocktail time. 
Wes worked on dell path - lots of small wood chips and leaf mulch washed down in recent heavy rains. I deadheaded - put leaf chips around hosta at oak next to garden well. Lifted out Hosta Venusta from step garden - potted up ten in preparation for rock garden plant sale at White Flower Farm next Sunday. 

August 2

1988 - Tuesday - 68° at 6 AM - Foggy - to be HHH- It was - terrible weather. Wes went to Mass - I prepared for work at Ballard - Muriel, Susie - Charlotte & Peggy Ryan. We deadheaded and staked. Wes continued work on upper holding bed area - removing brush to road pile & put poison ivy over cliff - After lunch to Katonah Publishing Co. to pick up invitations for October 8th - to Reclamation - Young's for peat moss - chopped it into new holding bed - watered ferns & plants on North Slope. Dinner on deck.

1989 - Wednesday - 60° at 6:45 - Slept late - good. Warm, dry day - small shower at midnight. 
Washed - ironed - watered Piper area and dell. Weeded mayapple area. 
Wes worked above big rock - cutting down saplings - we brought up orchard ladder and trimmed maple. Touched up paint on upper gate and rails. Cardinal flowers beginning to show color - watered them.

1990 - Thursday - Beautiful warm day, but nights have been cool and good sleeping. The Holmdens are with us.
To Readers Digest at 9:30 - met Eileen & Bob there - tour at 10:30 of art - beautiful collection of Mrs. Wallace - beautiful antique furniture also. To Eileen's for lunch - her place beautiful also. Home at 4:30 - dug up Astilbe Chinensis - Pussy Toes- Hens & Chickens - Violets for Joan.
Iraq invaded Kuwait.

1991 - Friday - 68° at 6 AM - Fair - breezy - very warm and humid. To Mass. Wes took the pine tree in north grass down - looks much better I stained the three new bedroom windows. Cut what little north grass is left and also the holding beds area. Picked beans and cherry tomatoes - no big one ripe. We have been enjoying BLT sandwiches for lunch. Eileen not feeling well today after a good day yesterday.

1992 - Sunday 55° at 6 AM. Sun coming over hill at 6:32 Beautiful day. First good weekend since June. To 8 o'clock Mass. Deadheaded - picked vegetables - cut all grass - South - cliff - North and top. Wes worked on dell path. Phoned girls. Joan said they'd like to take a one week vacation to Maine before Lee operation - Kelly back from trip to Cape where they had good weather. Bit & Mary fine.
