August 5
1988 - Friday - 74° at 6AM - Hot & Humid but a breeze in afternoon lessened the humidity. To Mass
going over Ned Mountain account - redo of GWH.
Brought up 8 ferns from North Woods - and some rattlesnake plantain - put them on North Slope. Then helped Wes get huge stone from holding bed area - used cribbing & raised it - left it, naturally, against first cliff. After lunch to bank & Marcus and then to Billie Newell's for a swim - GWH open for the weekend.

1989 - Saturday - 76° at 7AM. Hazy - Had fan on all night, so not bad sleeping. Heard Katy-Dids last night, returning from Punkie's. Very warm day. Washed - ironed - deadheaded and watered - mostly the last. Takes time. Water holding up thank God.
Wes continued clearing the upper North End. 
I cut back Lamium White Nancy and propagated (I hope) ten shoots in a plastic shoebox. Cardinal flowers ready for propagation but I hope for rain first.

1990 - Sunday 70° at 6AM. Cloudy and humid - miserable day for weather - looked like a storm any moment. To 8 o'clock Mass. Worked around place - Wes on Northeast slope. I deadheaded - edged North daylily bed - clipped edges of south grass. Made a box of Cardinal flower cuttings. To Louise McKeons to see her Herbs for Litchfield Show Sept 7th.
Iraq/Kuwait news not good. Arabs have postponed their meeting scheduled tomorrow - haven't cut off pipelines.

1991 - Monday - 62° at 5:30 - Looks fair - up early Eileen & I go to NY Botanical Garden. Clear beautiful day - not too warm. Left Louise at 6:15 for Tarrytown. I drove Eileen's car to NYBG - Wes returned home. He raked the washouts on the walks - went to bank.
Eileen & I reached NYBG about 8:10 - left there on van for Environmental Nursery - way out on North Neck Long Island, reached there 10:30. James Cross, owner, guided us around his garden - marvelous plants - trees - shrubs - lunch around pool. To Atlantic Nursery where bought Variegated Kerria Picta. Wes at Tarrytown at 5:40 - drove home - here at 7pm - tired.

1992 - Wednesday - lovely day. Worked on crossword - hard - finished it at night.
Wes worked on path in dell - brought down load of wood chips for the path.
I deadheaded - cut north and south grass and outside fence. Moved some ferns & astilbe.
To Atto Gust for picture of sundial (Ballard) present cost $357. 

August 6

1988 - Saturday - 74° at 7AM - Had breakfast on the dock - nice breeze. Warm and humid. To McKeon's for cow manure - pretty wet so didn't put it on new holding bed - stockpiled it instead up there. Did a wash - cut grass. Wes is digging another posthole at North End to make a gate - also filled in hole where took out big stone yesterday. I deadheaded - put labels in plants to move them next spring. Cardinal flower not quite ready to clip for propagating - Have quite a few there.

1989 - Sunday - 74° at 6AM - not bad sleeping last night - getting used to having the fan on - needed the light blanket. To 8 o'clock Mass - Marcus afterwards for milk - a mob of motorcyclists.
Deadheaded and watered - spent most of day watering - did all the North rhododendron. Took a couple pails of water to Cardinal flowers as they are coming out and about ready for propagation mixed peatmoss and sand for the planting box.

1990 - Monday - 70° at 6:45. Raining - started at 2:30AM - now 3/4 inch. To Mass. Breakfast after.
Rain at times - Some sun - very humid.
Did a wash - baked oatmeal cookies. David's cookies and bran muffins. (1 1/4 inches rain)
To Pharmacy for Wes Tymoptic - to Electrolux for a vacuum cleaner ($539!!) left blue bedroom rugs at Ziegler's for cleaning. Stop & Shop for groceries. Cleaned bedroom beige run and shampooed spots.

1991 - Tuesday - 55° at 6AM. Clear beautiful day. To Mass. Wes drove me to Ballard to work. He [[strikethrough]] rushed [[strikethrough]] went to bank -- Young's - cleaners. To Dr. James - bloodpressure okay - come back in 4 months. Wes picked me up at 11:20 - We picked tomatoes for BLT sandwiches for lunch - Wes took out a group of maple leaf verburnum and a euonymus on Wood Knoll.
I cut down Malva ( well guarded away) cut south grass.

1992 - Thursday - 54° at 6AM. Fair. These have been cool nights. To Mass. Delivered Japanese Fern to the Hartcorns. Took Billie's card Tempanelli’s to sign. On to bank, Marcus and liquor. Wes wheelbarrowed woodchips to dell path. I edged vegetable boxes on North top and cut grass there. Freddy the Frog's pump went off again - had to shut it off.
Beautiful day. Cool morning - warm sun.
