August 25

1988 - Thursday - 59° at 6 AM - Dark - foggy Rain during night - 2/10 inch. Mostly cloudy day - more humid. To Mass. I took Delphinium to Ballard - transplanted Astilbe (big job - gave most to ladies cleaning greenhouse - potted some for Garden Mart) planted 10 Delphinium - have 4 left - home for lunch. Wes had transplanted hemlock on North Ridge - in afternoon moved the spruce and new laurel same area - put lime on new planting bed (soil sample results) and covered bed with leaf chips.

1989 - Friday - 54° at 6 AM. Clear - Cold. Beautiful day. To Mass. Except for trip to bank & Marcus, worked around place. Wes making new holding bed North Top - grubbing up ground - lots of rocks but soil beautiful. I transplanted Platycodon and from Rock Garden to perennial bed - Thalictrum from Perennial bed to Shade Garden - daylilies from Joe’s Garden to upper daylilly bed to get rid of tall orange lilies (bad color & foliage) from lower garden. Knapp Tree men cutting trees and chipping along road.

1990 - Saturday - 70° at 7AM. Cloudy - .35 in rain gauge. Wes dumped it. Cleared a bit - part sun and clouds - outdoor work after a couple rainy days. Got big stone out of hole - left it at edge of path and moved the Azalea atlanticum from wood knoll front to rear near Japanese Solomon Seal - replanted iris, ferns & Solomon Seal moved it get out of Azalea way. Did a wash. Picked tomatoes. Cleaned garden room - beautiful evening.

1991 - Sunday - 60° at 6:15. Fair - beautiful. To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes paid bills and contributions. I phoned sisters. Wes called Mary. To the Arch at 12:10 - met Eileen and Eva Eislen there - Eileen the host for lunch - home at 3:30 - nap. Rearranged livingroom furniture trying to make more room in passageways.

1992 - Tuesday - 65° at 6AM. Fair to be HHH. My head still hurts. Wes feels better. We both had better sleep. Hurricane Andrew on way to New Orleans - killed 8 people in Miami. Wes went for a haircut - bought milk at Marcus. I went to Garden Club Meeting at Ballard Garden at 12:30 - Came home early.
Wes had rested.

August 26

1988 - Friday - 63° at 6AM. Fair - mostly - looked like rain in evening. To Mass. Wes transplanted small spruce to upper gate area - 6 day lilies south of pine at fenceline to spot near forsythia fenceline - more sun - put 3 new Sentinel Astilbe in their place. I cut grass.. Did a was. Cleaned guestroom and bath for Eileen tomorrow.  Called chimney cleaner and Tony Ongaro re another [[Cover?]] on garden well enclosure - will come this weekend.

1989 - Saturday - 49° at 7AM - "Sleep-in" morning. Beautiful day - Wes finished No.4 Upper Plateau Holding Bed. We moved there the Laurel, Rhododendron and [[?]] from the "Jr. Bed" near the well. and all the seedling Laurel bought at ARGS W77. I started filling holes in front of fence where daylilie/lilies were after Wes laid boards in back to hold soil. Picked up Rosses and went to Keller at 5pm - wonderful party + food - walked around Joe's Garden - lovely - fireworks after dinner

1990 - Sunday - 69° at 6AM - Foggy - became sunny. beautiful day - warm - humid afternoon To 8 o'clock Mass. I thinned new lettuce rows - cut grass. Wes cut out sod from North grass - curve - moved one Eunonymous Emerald Gaiety - preparatory to moving 3 Pink Pancake Azaleas hidden under bushes there.

1991 - Monday - 56° Eunonymous Emerald Gaiety at 6:30 - Partly sunny - cleared to a warm day. I worked at Ballard Garden in morning - meeting tomorrow. Muriel and I put epoxy again on the sundial - hope it holds now. Wes took down trees along road at grouse end - last of trees to come down - big rocks look great. Also took down one beech behind Pagoda Dogwood in wild garden. Picked beans and gave then to Gizella. Put peat and our compost into garden room planting holes.

1992 - Wednesday - H.H.H. Eileen came up at 10:30 - she drove me to the mall. At Lord + Taylor we bought a shell containing perfumed soap which she will send to Joan for me. I bought Ginger for her. To Barnes + Noble to pick up Richard Bir's bok on Growing + Propagating Native Woody Plants - Eileen bought a dictionary. Home to eat the sandwich + fruit she had brought us. Most of afternoon we rested - cleaned up papers - picked crops. Hurricane Andrew into Louisiana - not as much damages as Miami
