August 31

1988 - Wednesday - 54° at 7 AM.  Beautiful day.  
Wes went to Reclamation & Youngs for birdfood and bank for cash.  I cleaned up road - wall - garden (stack debris from storm)  Wes concreted upper gate post - put bag of Ball's on new planting bed and dug it in.  After lunch he cleaned up Wood Knoll.  I did Step garden and Piper area.  Transplanted Doll’s eye seedling from Dell to Cliff Wildflower area.  To Magnificos at 5:30 to meet Castles for dinner - good food but not elegant. 

1989 - Thursday - 58° at 6 AM - Clear.  Perfectly beautiful day.  To Mass.  Wes re-raked the paths washed out in last heavy rain.  I cleaned downstairs.  Early lunch & nap as Eileen came up at 1:30 - Carolyn, Chelsea and Marla Cappelletty, the nanny, here at 2 for a visit.  Chelsea now weighs 11 lbs, looks much bigger than last time we saw her.  They left after 4 - we relaxed and enjoyed the evening, so sunny, clear and cool. 

1990 - Friday - 59° at 6 AM.  Fair - beautiful day low humidity.  To Mass.  Wes continued digging around Mugho Pine outside fence - moved in closer to fence by afternoon - last big bush he'll ever move.  I  made muffins and cookies - trimmed grass edges - deadheaded.  To Punkie Scott's at 6:30 for dinner - Mark Sattler (Millicent ill) Helen Ross - Tracys - Timpanellis and us - good time - home at 10:30.

1991. Saturday - few drops rain early but no forecasted showers.  Prepared for luncheon guests - Eileen here at 10:30 - Kelly - Carolyn, Peter and Chelsea at noon.  Wes cooked chicken kabobs on grill, very good.  We napped after they left - did up dishes - I cut south grass.  Wes rolled it again

1992.  Monday - 64° at 7 AM.  Fair - breezy, beautiful day. 
Did the crossword.  To Post office to mail Crossword Club puzzles to Joan - liquor store - bank S&S. 
Did a wash.  After lunch & nap cut all grass - even the stupid ornamental grass outside fence.  Picked crops.  Took deadheads from Dr. Jayne Kalmia Kadeloscope - lots. 
Joan doing well - may come home tomorrow - test not back yet. 


September 1

1988 - Thursday - 52° at 6AM - Beautiful day.  To Mass.  I  went to Lord & Taylor Stamford to look for a dress - none - to Helga's Ridgefield - ditto - bought a few groceries.  Wes had dug a bag of Ball's Mix into new planting box top of cliff - later mixed in lime.  Continued cleanup of storm debris - moved Dolls-eye (Actaea pacypoda) from roadside to join others on cliffside wildflower garden 
Moved Maidenhair Fern from corner of rock on well/shed path to wildflower garden.

1989.  Friday - 56° at 6AM - clear - cloudy & windy in afternoon - rain predicted.  To Mass.  To Youngs for grub control - liquor shop - Groceries at Stop & Shop.  Wes applied grub control - had to go for another bag.  Moved big ferns from behind second garden well to stone under big rock which Wes straightened up yesterday. 
Moved little spruces from viburnum area to top of Knoll - moved small viburnum across path.  Planted Emerald Gold Eunonymous Eileen brought us yesterday.  To Mary Luke's at 6 for cocktails & supper - all Ridgebury friends there

1990 - Saturday - 56° at 7 AM.  Fair Beautiful
Worked around place - Wes removed sod from SW corner of driveway grass - brought down "sweet peat" to dig it in - I moved the Ajuga to the edge - will finish planting later.  Wes dug small hemlock from lower section of northeast slope - planted it near compost 
I deadheaded - sprayed using new brass sprayer - works great.  Moved some moss to weeping hemlock at big rock - need more - staked that hemlock - Wes cooked chicken kabobs on grill

1991 - Sunday - 55° at 6:30 - Fair - big change in weather - humidity gone but no needed rain.  Wore sweater to 8 o'clock Mass.  Watered transplanted Astilbe - and north triangle bed.  Picked beans and tomatoes. Moved small laurel and rhododendron - at least six - from holding bed to northeast slope.  To Helen Ross' new home on Stony Hill Road - about eleven miles from here.

1992 - Tuesday. 53° at 7 AM. Fair.  To Mass.  Father in Rome.  We finished crossword.  I worked at Ballard.  Liz Montanari is new Co chair - she brought cookies & lemonade - sent cookies home to Wes.  I worked until 10:30.  Wes had dug up 8 little spruce trees - planted them in black pots.  After lunch & nap we dug myrtle from area between piper and house that we want to put in rock garden plants in now that black birch tree is gone. Planted myrtle on top slope.  Moved 3 Astilbe Sprite from Joe's garden to side of garden room steps.  Deadheaded Cimicifuga at triangle bed.  Joan came home from hospital - says feels fine
