September 2

1988 - Friday - 52º at 6AM - Fair - beautiful day. To Mass. Wes dug up tall Hemlock from middle of last wood laurel - replanted it on Judson line - move went very easily. I did a wash - to bank - Marcus - Sylvia Barry to look for a dress - none. After lunch I cut grass, lowered mower for South side only. Wes watered the Hemlock wells. We picked up more sticks - watered some transplants - pretty dry.

1989 - Saturday - 68º at 7AM - Sunny - beautiful. No rain unfortunately, so put on sprinkler to wash in grub control - moved it around all day - thank God the well held out.
Transplanted the big Viburnum Carlesi to South side of striped maple (same area) and brought over the spruce from upper gate to spot behind fir and pine - looks good. Transplanted myrtle from north chimney to cleared area upper holding bed - didn't finish at quitting time.

1990 - Sunday - 64º at 6AM - Foggy - beautiful day - a bit humid. To 8 o'clock Mass. I was Lector. 
Worked around place. Wes watered recent transplants. I cleared soil from rocks on top of North slope - moved a fern.

1991 - Labor Day - 49º at 6:30 - Cold night - Beautiful morning - and day.
Muriel Pederson came at 9:30 and we worked on box of ground cover for Washington show Thursday - Took all morning. Wes worked on roadside path to north end. After lunch & nap - watered garden room. Prepared Rosemary Ring, Azalea Atlanticum and Myrtle Standard.

1992 - Wednesday - 48º at 7 AM. Fair beautiful day. Did crossword. I went to Dr. Ahern for sigmoidoscope exam - not pleasant but intestines clear. Wes worked on path - put stone on to hold runoff.
We had a martini to celebrate my successful exam and Wes cooked lambchops. Wes continued work on paths - I edged above Tony Ongaro's latest wall and last side of north grass - brought up leaf chips.
Early supper. To Timpanelli's at 6:15 - Jeanne drove to Bedford where we saw "Howards End" - good - home 10


September 3

1988 - Saturday - 56º at 7 AM - Fair. Good to sleep late. To St. Mary's Ridgefield for 10:30 wedding of Christine Solting and Christopher Mareno - then to Ethan Allen for reception - dinner - very loud music and singers. Home at 5 - took a nap - did crossword - read the papers - filled birdbaths - birds still taking many baths.

1989 - Sunday - 51º at 6:15 - Fair - beautiful day. To 8 o'clock Mass. Finished moving myrtle to holding bed area - brought down 3 Taxus (small) and planted them in front of chimney. Dressed area with leaf chips - raked gravel down to cover part of area where couldn't plant around big stone.
Also had watered section of north grass - watering in the grid control.
Phoned Joan - she had won $50.00 in fruit & vegetables for a peach pie.

1990 - Monday - Beautiful day - Tiber Vargas 70th birthday - Labor Day - No mass scheduled.
We shopped at Stop & Shop - lots of people - Special K cereal $3.55 a box - I had a 50 [cent] coupon that was doubled. Wes brought soil down for new front garden and outside fence around [[Mugho?]]. I cut grass - Transplanted dwarf Solomon Seal - some roots - To Mary Luke's at 6 for cocktails & supper. Boo sick - in hospital.

1991 - Tuesday - 52º at 6AM. Clear - beautiful day. To Mass. I worked at Ballard in the morning - discussed placement of Pergola - planted gifts of Dolly Whitman - 4 Hemerocallis and a Hydrangea - stopped at bank, Youngs for peat - Stop & Shop for bananas. 
Wes had worked on roadside path to north end - took out some great stones - continued there in pm - moving a huge stone. He cut grass around holding beds - I picked tomatoes & beans - watered veg beds.

1992 - Thursday - 62º at 7 AM. Light rain overnight. More predicted - off and on all day - heavy at night. An indoor day. Couldn't finish crossword. I went to Edith Miffley's for a "turn-over" of Ballard garden to the new co-chairmen, Gigi Adams & Liz Montanari - lunch included. Stopped at bank & Italian deli enrote home - but no Parmesan. Cleaned up newspapers - tried to finish crossword - no luck.
