September 6

1988 - Tuesday - 48° at 6AM - Clear - cool beautiful day - needed sweater early & late in day. I worked at Ballard with Muriel, Charlotte & Sherryl Taylor Transplanted Phlox-Iris - Home for lunch after Brunetti stop. 
Wes had transplanted the Leatherleaf Viburnum five feet to the right. We moved big white Hostas from behind shade garden to well garden path - moved Epimedium to join others on lower path- Phoned Boyles-[[Longtmans?]] & Cunninghams to get answers on Oct. 8th date.

1989 - Wednesday - 50° at 7AM - Foggy. Aerial must be off - cant get WQXR - also cant move the aerial. Beautiful day. Outdoor work - Moved Azalea Aborescense twice, first on West slope then to east side of wood knoll - put Swiss Stone Pine on west side - moved Hinoki Cypress and Dwarf Scotch Pine from front of rock garden to rear - don't know whether they will live - huge tap roots for dwarf plants. Brought down small laurel from holding bed to east walk up hill where Arborescens was. All look good to us.

1990 - Thursday - 63° at 6AM - Dark - Foggy off and on cloudy/sunny - forecast rain at night 
To Mass. To Wilton Stationers to order stationery for Bit Joan & Kelly's birthdays - stopped for gasoline for can - bank & Marcus - After lunch I cut grass. Wes did more grading on north top - we watered all transplants - dug up ornamental grasses from west slope where not growing well - put them in holding bed.

1991 - Friday - 58° at 6AM - Good sleeping - Partly cloudy 
Soviet Union recognized freedom of Baltic States. 
Became a fair day. To Mass. 
Wes continued working on roadside path to north - moving big stones. 
I transplanted Hostas in lampost path area - dug holes behind fence near mailbox for future moves - hit a big stone. moved Monkshood to Well garden area.

1992 - Sunday - 60° at 6:30 - Dark. We dont like to get up early anymore. To 8 o'clock Mass. Phoned sisters - Mary fell on the street - hurt her face & jaw. Bit doing OK. Joan returns to the surgeon on Thursday for test results. Wes continued repairing storm-damaged path - took stone from driveway to do it. I moved the Scabrosa to "yellow" sungarden - also one of the Coreopsis "Moonbeam". Edged behind shade garden. Cut down some Cimicifuga - very mildew - next year spray with Benemyl. Wes cooked lambchops at noon - soup for supper.

September 7

1988 - Wednesday - 46° at 7AM. Fair - Fog rising from pond - beautiful day - cool but warm sun. 
To Talbots - but no outfit for Oct. 8th - bought a boiled wool jacket - took time so didn't go on to New Canaan. After lunch moved the Pink Pancake Azaleas to well garden - also the Rodgersia to spot where Hosta was and after Wes put a big stone in back to hold soil - put Achostaphulus where Pink Pancakes were - watered well transplants

1989. Thursday - 52° at 6AM. Foggy - became a beautiful day. To Mass. To mall for a haircut for me - on to Ridgefield (Ramp to Route 7 now open) papers to Reclamation - CVS for supplies but no Waterpik for Wes - Stop & Shop & home. Wes cleared last side of upper path - found it was all ledge rock - peeled back knots of roots. I deadheaded (not much left) trimmed grass edges and cultivated. Couldnt move aerial but WQXR back again so must have been weather conditions

1990 - Friday - 70° at 6AM - Foggy - cloudy. No rain - Off and on sun - too bad no rain. 
Wes went to Mass. Torrey Cooke picked Muriel Pedersen and me up & drove to Litchfield - Torrey made an artistic arrangement - (HM) we entered Herbs & Sedum (3rd for Herbs) Home at 11. Wes had a haircut & filled car with gasoline - $1.53 gallon. Worked around place in afternoon. Wes grading up top. I clipped & watered

1991 - Saturday - 56° at 7AM. Beautiful day. Did a wash. I did more transplanting in morning inside fence above mailbox - Wes removed big stones there. He continued work on roadside path to north. Early lunch & nap. Muriel Pedersen picked me up at 2:15 - went to Washington Depot Show - won second for Ground Cover Box - we thought it should be first - Rosemary Ring - Myrtle standard and Azalea Atlanticum firsts. To Tracy's cocktail party at six

1992 - Monday - 62° at 7AM. Very light rain. Labor Day - Pat Brassington & Phyllis Perron did not come for a garden tour, but it made us get out there and work. Transplanted 2 plants from wall garden to new section - bottom of step garden - will have a lot of sun there since birch was cut down. To Tempanellis for a party at six o'clock - porch. lots of people - good dinner - home at 9:15.
