October  12

1988 - Wednesday - 40° at 7 AM - Fair - cold breezy - cloudy in late afternoon.
Took white round tables and other articles to Keeler Tavern Barn sale - shopped for groceries - Did a wash - ironed. Wes put another layer of caulking material on Solar window - screws he put in top seem to have prevented drips. Cut back the two fuchias [[fuchsias]] and hung them in crawlspace. To Christine & Phil Lodewick's at 7:30 to hear talk by Barbara Ireland - seeking another term as State Representative.

1989 - Thursday - 40° at 6 AM - Dark - a beautiful day, sunny and mild - up in 60's. Leaves coming down. To Mass. Wes finished fence repair on South border. I polished silver. Wes to Wickes for plywood to start making a cold frame. I went to Waldbaums and Marcus - at one of those parking lots someone banged right hand front door of the Honda - very maddening. I plated McClure & Zimmerman bulbs - cut down more perennials.

1990 - Friday - 68° at 6 AM - To Mass. Partly cloudy - looked like rain - mist at 4:45 - good timing for working outdoors. Wes picked up cleaned pants (oil on them from saw) liquor - bananas - to Community Center for bus tickets Nov. 14th - I cut grass - stopping to rake leaves - Wes dug hole for Forsythia outside fence - we moved the one in daylily bed there - looks good - started moving astilbe inside fence - hit big stone - rain drove us in before getting it out.

1991 - Saturday - 45° at 7 AM - Beautiful fall day. Did a wash - ironed. To Ridgefield to pick up cleaning - class picture St Thomas - had key made to replace Wes' lost one - ate a hot dog from Chez Lenard -  bananas from Stop & Shop.
Planted some of Dutch Bulb order.
Judge Thomas confirmation hearings continue.

1992 - Monday. Columbus Day - 52° at 7:15 - good sleeping - foggy - supposed to clear - did.
Wes went for a haircut. I did a wash.
Moved Geranium Johnson's Blue to newly cleared space at bottom of step garden. Transplanted Anemone from shade garden to Joe's Garden - one fell into pieces 
Cut down same Astilbes. Cut grass all in one direction to remove leaves. Wes turned over No 2 compost bin to No. 3. Shopped S & S.

October 13

1988 - Thursday - 38° at 7 AM - Breakfast after Mass - cloudy early - cleared at 9 - cool breezy day.
Wes had shop time. Emptied big pots of Impatiens and put them away in crawlspace 
I cut down triangle garden. Phoned Mary Luke and arranged for birthday party at her house on Oct 28 for Alex Ross (80 years)  To Penney's at Mall to buy invitations.

1989 - Friday - 52° at 6:30 - Beautiful day - sunny and mild - to 68°. To Mass. To Brunetti for chicken for lunch tomorrow (Coggeshalls) left Youngstown exposures at shop for enlargements - Stop & Shop.
Cleaned house - cut grass in afternoon - raked leaves from driveway and front walk - cut Monkshood - Phlox and roses for house. Wes finished the coldframe - or almost finished it - stained it grey.
"Washington Week in Review" back on Channel 13 at 8 pm.

1990 - Saturday - 70° at 7 AM - 1.45 in. rain by noon - able to work outdoors in mist in afternoon
Did a wash - polished silver and brass 
After lunch - Wes got the big stone out of hole near fence - brought down soil and we transplanted 3 Astilbes, against fence - two large Hosta on grass side in front of them and broke up the variegated Hosta into three for the front border; Wes turned 2nd compost into 3rd. I made oatmeal cookies.

1991 - Sunday - 43° at 6:30. Fair beautiful fall day. To 8 o'clock Mass. I was Lector
Read papers. Picked up Jane Jessup at 12:15 and on to Helen Ross' new home for lunch - Tempanelli's also there. Lively discussion of Thomas-Hill hearings in Washington. Home at 4 - took a nap. Light supper
Had phoned girls in morning - all well.

1992 - Tuesday- 52° at 6 AM. Moon giving light - was full on the 11th. Good day - real fall Color is beautiful - leaves beginning to fall. To Mass. I worked at Ballard Garden - crew of 5 - Gigi Adams in charge - finished cutting down all plants. Wes had put cover over Solar Fan - took in all deck chairs. He put No 1 Compost into No 2 bin - good soil under No. 1 already. Put new gravel around kitchen raised bed. I cut off Hosta foliage near well & at garden room. Vice President candidates debate 7/8:30 PM.
