November 5

1988 - Saturday - 48° at 7AM. Foggy - Rained all day - heavy at times and windy. Definitely an indoor day, Wes in shop. I did a work wash, ironed, read papers, knitted. We were going to the movies but decided to stay home account heavy rain and try again tomorrow. 

1989 - Sunday - 32° at 6:15 - clear. Sun coming over the hill about 6:55 - fair early morning - cloudy rest of day - milder, Wes chipped leaves - I cleared off deck - planted rest of bulbs- raked leaves from cliff path over the cliff - raked front walk (again!) and more of wall garden. Wes cooked a lamb chop for lunch. In afternoon he had difficulty starting chipper - finally discovered a shamois entangled in the knives - the Grouse dog Quadrille probably. 

1990 - Monday - 48° at 7AM. Slept in - our winter schedule for Mondays. Did a wash. Set out ingredients for muffins, and cookies for baking later in day. Wes went right to work chipping leaves at well - by end of day finished there with all the extra leaves we carried there from north grass and around house. I cut down all astilbe in shade garden.
Phoned Coggeshalls - made date for lunch Sat. the 10th at The Elephant. 

1991 - Tuesday - Election Day - Mostly cloudy cold damp day. To Mass. Voted afterwards. To bank, Wes raked and I joined him. Cleaned Garden Room again - cliff path - cut down Tansy - couldn't pull it out - but pulled out blackberry bushes off path - threw those leaves over cliff. Wes working on north paths - looking  a little better.

1992 - Thursday - 50° at 7AM. Cloudy. To Mass - Breakfast after. Raked some leaves - very wet - threw them in woods. Planted the Leucothoe Catesboci (Catawbiense) Compacta on road side path to north top - also the 6 autumn crocus there. Put away watering cans - last hose - turned off pump. To Tarrytown after lunch to take Eileen her two Leucothoe - Snow at the window and looking beyond us. So we knew Eileen wasn't home. We returned immediately - here before dark. Eileen phoned later she had been at the movies. 

November 6

1988. Sunday - 52° at 6AM - Clearing - a beautiful day - quite mild - To 8 o'clock Mass. Worked around South side - raking - cleaning up Garden Room - Wes rolled half the grass to bang down the mole runs. I cut part of the grass and thus blew leaves. Lunch in Solar - almost too warm. Kane Funeral Home for Dick Chypre's wake - To Ridgefield Cinema to see "Crossing Delancey" - only half good. 

1989- Monday - 47° at 6AM - Cloudy.  Light rain in morning - not enough to stop work - cleared at night. To Mass. Planted Narcissus and Hyacinth for Preview of Spring Show. Put out second bird feeder. Then raked leaves. Wes chipped leaves at well - finished the pile there. After lunch we raked along the road put those leaves at the well - Wes has more to chip there. Studied candidates for election tomorrow. 

1990. Tuesday. 52° at 6AM - Some rain overnight but to clear and be windy - Election Day. High wind. To Mass. Renewed Wes' Timoptic drops - picked up Conn. Housing Bond from Safe Deposit Box (part called) gasoline for can - Stop & Shop - home for lunch. Voted - oatmeal from Grand Union - picked up 2 Open Space Work Books(one for Sally) Wes to Dr Brook - had 3 spots on face frozen by liquid nitrogen - early supper - Tempanelli’s picked us up - to "Memphis Belle" at 7:20 - to their house for election. 

1991 - Wednesday - 26° at 6AM. Fair. Thornburg defeated in Pennsylvania. Term-Limit and Assisted Death defeated in Washington - Beautiful day, Wes raked leaves. I drove to Purdy's - took 9:21 train $4.50 each way - Met Eileen in Grand Central - bus to 8th Ave. and 47th St - lunch at B. Smith's - good but noisy & crowded. "Secret Garden" matinee at St James Theater - sweet and good - caught 5:17 train to Purdy's - home at 6:55. 

1992. Friday. 38° at 6:45 - Sun coming up! To Mass, Breakfast. Wes drained down garden pump lines - all hose and cans now in crawlspace. I repotted Christmas Dream Tulip - adding the 10th bulb Peggy Ryan had sent me. Filled refuse bags with oak leaves and set 3 pans of bulbs (Cassata and Thalia Narcissus and one tulip) on them - covered with another bag in shed area. We raked leaves - carried them to roadside and below shed. Used lawnboy on grass to furrow leaves - Wes raked and bagged them - good to see green grass again. Caught another mouse in garage.
