November 7

1988 - Monday - 56° at 7AM - Sun came thru clouds at 7:45 - Mostly fair day but very windy and cold. 
To funeral mass for Dick Chypre at 9:30 - I had a haircut at 11 - Wes in shop. 
After lunch outdoors to clean leaves from south terrace walls - so windy and cold not good working
Fixed sittingroom table but it needs new rivets 

1989 - Tuesday - Election  Day.  38° at 6AM.  Beautiful morning, cloudy afternoon - mild.  To Mass.  I worked at Greenhouse - we had a bulb planting workshop at 11 - I planted another pot of Tulip Best Seller.  Shopped at Stop & Shop before returning.  Wes had finished the leaf pile at the well (the 2nd pile) then he moved the chipper half way down path and finally to the bottom. 
I cut down perennials in Joe's "Garden" & entry garden.  Raked out water course in dell.  We had voted after Mass.  (Saw Red Bellied under feeder!) Mass.

1990 - Wednesday - 36° at 7AM - Fair - [[?Wickes]] & Cuomo elected - Toby Moffet lost - Jesse Helms won in N.C. unfortunately.  I went to Post office - sent Conn. Bond back to Hartford Bank for redemption of $10,000 - to G. Fox which had special sale for charity - bought gloves for Bit and slippers for Mary - couldn't find the car in the parking lot!  Wes was chipping and raking leaves all day.  I went to Dr. Barbara Joseph for exam - blood pressure 120/80 - weight 128 - took Pap smear - otherwise OK - Back home helped Wes rake leaves.

1991 - Thursday - 30° at 6AM - Call - Cloudy - damp day.  To Mass.  I went to Marcus and for a haircut - short.  Wes raked leaves above well area.  Also, blew leave from lamium and rolled then on cliff edge - also the south grass.  I cut the grass to remove leaves - also did the north grass.  Raked leaves along road to Judson's - put these in "wet" area - Leaf shredder was delivered but we couldn't start it - a big disappointment.

1992 - Saturday - 38° at 7AM.  Cloudy - dull - a little sun. 
Raked and carried leaves to woods and chipper piles.  Opened fence by compost to put all the leave from that area.  Triangle of dolls-eye garden as clean as we want to make it. 
Sounds dull but we were happy to clear up some areas - an awful lot of leaves - good exercise 


November 8

1988 - Tuesday - Election Day - 38° at 6AM.  Beautiful morning - cloudy afternoon - light sprinkles at times but didn't stop work.  To Mass.  Father Ed, as and Father Medynski on vacation for a week.  To Vote following mass and Reclamation & Stop & Shop.  Home to blow and rake - Wes used chipper in afternoon.  I cleaned Garden Room - cut down a few more perennials - raked front walk - cliff walk - down step wall garden - loads of piles

1989 - Wednesday - 50° at 7AM.  Very foggy.  Chased a deer eating at vegetable bed and the crab!  Darn.  Later inspected fence - couldn't see where he got in - ate some plants in perennial bed.  Cleared in morning - very mild.  Wes chipped leaves - these opposite the Piper.  I cut down perennials - raked out leaves there and down dell path.  To town after lunch for bird food - reclamation - left table cloth at Frances cleaners - liquor - Stop & Shop.  Home to work out doors and the hour.  Mice in kitchen drawers!

1990 - Thursday - 40° at 6AM.  Cloudy - off & on sun - not bad - windy.  To Mass  Wes picked up repaired saw at Nutmeg - bought gasoline ($1.699) Marcus 
I dug a trench in [[strikethrough]] the [[strikethrough]] one upper holding bed and put 5 pots of forcing bulbs there with refuse bags of leaves under and over them.  Wes chipped leaves at shed - went to Dr. Brook for a checkup at 2pm.  Picked up Helen Ross and went to Billie Newell's at 4:45 for cocktails - Jane Jessup and Pres and Neville Lee there.  Home at 7:15.

1991 - Friday - 38° at 6AM.  Cold damp day with wind.  To Mass.  To Nutmeg for a spark plug for the chipper - on to Stop and Shop.  Couldn't get the chipper going - called Youngs' - two men came at 4pm and started it - Wes chipped leaves for 45 minutes in Wild Garden.  Rest of day we raked leaves, cleaned off the rock garden and most of perennial garden.  Hung Open Bottom Bird feeder delivered by Wayside.

1992 - Sunday - 30° at 6AM.  Partly cloudy - became a beautiful day but very cold.  Phoned sisters - invited Carolyn & Pete & Chelsea for Thanksgiving - read papers - enjoyed a Martini before lunch - to "A River Runs Through It" at North Street Theater for 2 o'clock show - very good.  Stopped for gasoline enroute - $1.62/gal.
