December 21

1988 - Wednesday - 44° at 6AM. Dark - Sun 7:19-4:32 Winter soltice (solstice) 10:28 AM. Partly cloudy day - near 50°.
Wes took car to Honda for service - 17,250 miles - then went for Emissions check - passed. 
I did a work wash. To Needles to ask help on knitting two ruches had to be pulled off front - she had me get started again - stopped at Stop & Shop for a few groceries. 
Polished apples for cone - need grapes - made meringue shells for Christmas dessert - did crossword. 

1989 - Thursday - 14° at 6AM - Dark. Winter arrives 4:22PM. Sun 7:19-4:31. home today. Flurries in morning - no accumulation - swept it from walks. 
Sun out in afternoon at times. To Mass. Wes waited for T R and mail to give them Christmas present. Standard Oil repairman didn't come until 2 pm - then had to go to Stamford for a part! not the right one as got furnace going at 6pm but no heat from some places. Man returned at 9pm (Wes had to open gate) & fixed it partly - not right yet. I had shopped for groceries in afternoon.

1990 - Friday - 39° at 6AM. Sun 7:17 - 4:31
Winter arrives 7:10 PM. Misty rain all day - we did get a walk before lunch.
To Stop & Shop - bank & Marcus.
Finished wrapping Christmas presents.
Wes in shop.
Up to 52° in afternoon. Picked up Helen and Arlene Ross at 6:30 and went to Punkie Scott's for dinner. Tracy and Timpanellis there - very pleasant evening

1991 - Saturday - 32° at 7AM - Snow showers. Sun 7:16 - 4:31
Cleared in afternoon but still very windy.
I made Anne Tracy's Chicken - Artichoke Casserole
Wes picked up his cleaning - heavy jacket & pants - at Mall cleaner. We struggled with the crossword - couldn't finish it. Put the red birds and white doves on Christmas tree - it needs something else. To Ceil & Rudy Ruggles - Julie & Craig Foster's cocktail party at Community Centre at 5 - home for soup at 6:30.

1992 - Monday - 25° at 7AM. Clear. Sun 7.17-4.32
Winter arrives 9:43 AM. Good winter day.
To S&S - then to Mall - jammed with cars - to Lord & Taylor. Wes bought me gloves for Christmas - to Jed's Clock Emporium. picked up old Banjo Clock - (repaired $127.20) Greg Milles phoned - coming to look at shop at 6:30 - We ate early - he came at 6:45 & offered $3000 - Wes accepted - check dated Dec. 23rd to enable transfer of funds - Gus & Carolyn Runwold sent out basket of Oranges - Bit flew to Betsey's in Madison Wisc. for Christmas. 

December 22

1988 - Thursday - 30° at 6:30 - Didn't look at 6AM.
Sun 7:19-4:32. Fair. Cold very windy but lovely winter day. To Mass. I took Petersen gift greens to church - helped place them on crib - poinsettas not coming until tonight. To Crabtree & Evelyn to pickup one more jar of mustard in pretty red bag for gift tomorrow evening.
Took a mile walk down Bogus.
Wes chased Thomas Rufus to give him Christmas gift!
Saw deertracks outside fence.

1989 - Friday - 10° at 6AM - Might be something wrong with our thermometer as NYC says 8°. Frigid day.
To Mass. Sun 7:17-4:32 - a turn at night. Good sunny day, thank God, as our heat not right. Standard Oil man came at three - bled all the pipes - one in the livingroom was frozen - got heat started again - warm day but only slowly rising in livingroom. To Punkie Scott's at 7:30 for dinner - home at 11. Heat still on but only 50 in livinggroom. Left it on all night 

1990 - Saturday. 18° at 7AM. Sun 7:17-4:32. Foggy. Put heat on entire house. Wes laid a fire - despite warm temperature it was good in the rain/damp day. 
I prepared lunch. Eileen here at 10:0 - Carolyn, Peter Chelsea came at 11 - had a pleasant visit - Chelsea walking - removed all items from coffee table - climbed stairs until they were blocked off - they left before three.
Helen & Arlene Ross came with Christmas package - we took a nap 
Picked up Jane Jessup & onto Kellers - 30 people - great party 

1991 - Sunday - 30° at 6:30. Fair Sun 7:17/4:32
Winter began at 3:54 AM. Not a bad day. 
To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes balanced checkbook. paid  bills. I phoned Joan - Bit, Kelly and Eileen - all well. Wes split wood. I put fertilizer on shrubs Picked up lots of sticks. Cut off white pine limb hitting the deer fence - cut off juniper below oak - used greens on front step. Put a few ornaments on tree. Wes cooked lamb chops at noon.

1992 - Tuesday - 30° at 6AM - Sun 7:17-4:32
Very light snow - To Mass - became a good winter day. To S&S for beef filet - CUS at the Mall for metamucil - to bank to when we would know if Greg Miller's check was covered - "takes at least 3 days to clear" Marcus for milk. Took a mile walk. good in the sun. After lunch & nap to Anessi Tailor - red coat not ready - will return there after Christmas - had picture made of Miller check - to Pedersen's - picked up seeds of Anagallis Cinfolia Muriel gave us cookies & bread - we left Bottle of shrub on Punkee's porch.
