contributions have been continued during the past year, though greatly to the regret of all connected with the Department. we have to record the premature decease of Mrs. Chamberlain, whose interest in the Lea collection, gathered & given to the U. S. National Museum by her distinguished father, has been constant & great.  It is with gratification that I may add that Doctor Chamberlain has announced his intention of continuing to contribute towards the same end in future, as a memorial contribution on behalf of his lamented wife.  After the death of Mrs. Chamberlain, her husband presented to the Museum a collection of marine shells which had been Mrs. Chamberlain's personal property.
