authors, which at present are seldom collected, or at least make their appearance in collections rarely, probably because the localities where these shells were originally collected, in the course of years have ceased to be any longer of commercial importance.  At all events the contribution to the reserve series which is likely to be derived from the Chamberlain collection is much larger than is usually the case from miscellaneous material of this general character.  This collection comprised about 3500 species & about 10,000 specimens.  The valuable & numerous contributions of Dr. & Mrs. Chamberlain to the library during the year, chiefly works bearing on the Natural History of the Unionidae will be referred to in the Report of the Librarian.
