species of Unionidae and other fresh water shells have been added to the Lea collection at the expense of Dr. & Mrs. Chamberlain during the past year.  These contributions are making the Lea collection what it was at the time Dr. Lea ceased to work upon the subject, the finest & most complete representation of Unionidae & allied forms of mollusks to be found anywhere in the world.

Among the collections received which are worthy of special mention, the following may be referred to:  A collection of some 30 or 40 species has been obtained in exchange from Mr. C. F. Ancey of Algeria which contains a number of novelties, some of considerable interest.
