the Antilles. Mr. Guppy's collection contains a very large proportion of all these species, not merely mollusks, but also the types of [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] sea urchins described by Cotteau from Mr. Guppy's collection, and specimens of various other species received by Mr. Guppy from other authors. The total number of species is nearly 400, including more than twice as many specimens, and the writer is of the opinion that this collection is the most important lot of fossils received by the museum for some years. 

In exchange for fossils from the American tertiary, Mr. G. H. Harris of London has sent, as a first installment 231 species of the miocene fossils of Northern Europe, supplementing the material the Department has receive from Mr. Bonnet.
