The Squids [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] ^[[or]]^ Cuttle Fishes. A few of the species of this family furnish the well-known cuttle bone, which is a sort of internal shell lodged in the back of the animal. Some of [[strikethrough]] them [[/strikethrough]] ^[[the Squids]]^ are used for food, and others, which eject an inky liquid, furnish the dye known as sepia. Large quantities of these animals are used for bait in the cod fisheries.
