The Spindle Shells.
The shell of Fusus proboscidiferus, a species of this family, often reaches a length of two feet, and weighs [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] from 12 to 15 pounds. It is the largest of the [[strikethrough]] snails [[/strikethrough]] univalve shells. It inhabits the Central Pacific.
Family Buccinidae. No 14.-20
Represented by the Common Whelk or Buckie (Buccinum undatum) found in abundance on both shores of the North Atlantic. The animal is a common article of food in Northern Europe.
