Dear Doris,
I was glad to get your letter and hope that you are having a wonderful trip, chock full of memorable and exciting experiences. I also hope that sea-sickness somehow escaped you both en route.
The past few weeks it has been very warm in Wash.. About two weeks ago, on a day when the Chapins were coming for dinner and I had ordered a ham to bake, the Temperature soared to 96 degreesF'; in the kitchen it must have been 110 degreesF (the hottest day of the year!). I never sweltered so in my life. Some ice cream I had ordered from Gifford's wouldn't stay frozen.
