JIMMY'S ADVENTURE

"Aw gee whiz!" sighed Jimmy, "I wish I didn't have to go for my walk this afternoon."

Jimmy Duck had been accustomed to going on walks the middle of every afternoon. He had been having such a good time playing in the pond that at first he did not hear his mother calling him.

He slowly waddled up to the house to have his feather combed. His mother kissed him goodby [[goodbye]] and sent him off to take his stroll.

After going a little ways he met a roly-poly cub-of-a-bear who was full of honey from the large hollow oak on the side of the meadow. The larger portion of his face was covered with the yellow, sticky substance, and he was having a hard time getting it off.

Jimmy spoke up suddenly, "What's your name?"

"My name is Max Bear! Want to start sum'pin? Put up your mits if you ain't yeller!"

"I didn't say I wanted to fight. All I wanted to know was your name so that we could be friends. My name is Jimmy Duck."

"I guess it's okay if you want to be friends. Come on and I'll show you der holler oak where I always get my dessert

He took Jimmy to the big oak and helped him up to the first high branch. They ventured up to a large round hole where could be seen a few cells of honey.

Jimmy actually hated honey and when he found out what Max had led him to he turned around started back home. Suddenly he heard a sound, very much similar to that of an airplane. He glanced back over his shoulder and saw a black mass racing toward him. It flashed upon him that it was the bees who occupied the nest that Max had carelessly stuck his paws in with the idea of taking out more honey. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him but finally the bees reached poor Jimmy. He was stung all over the head and nearly scared to death. Oh! Oh! how it did hurt. He made one flying leap for the pond. Never had water seemed so good to Jimmy in all his life. As soon as he appeared again on the surface of the water he mumbled out something about minding his own business from then on.
