AN INDIAN CULTURAL CENTER

The drawing attempts to illustrate how certain parts of the Indian Cultural Center would be housed. The pattern of buildings could radiate from the larger circular shaped arena which would be designed to accommodate large gatherings for indoor activities, such as dances and other special Indian ceremonies. The space surrounding the arena could have a natural-like setting landscaped but designed to accommodate temporary setting, e.g. temporary shelters, areas for fabricating or processing items necessary for everyday living, and areas for the creation of large works of carving and sculpture.
The surrounding buildings would be designed internally to house the functions stated in the proposal, but the exterior architectural features would attempt to reflect the idea of the Center, Indian in spirit, simple and honest in design, and in harmony with the natural setting. An architecture that would age and mellow gracefully. An architecture that would derive its completeness from the carvings, sculptures, and paintings that would be created by selected Indian artists.
