4 Indian women have always had a responsibility beyond motherhood and wedlock in the Indian world. We are participants in all things which affect our people, our families, our men...Jeri Kemp is one of us. *** INCORPORATION PAPERS--Native American Woman's Action Council members Dorothy Miller, Grace Thorpe, and Marguerite Vey signed incorporation papers Saturday, February 27. The papers were prepared by John Echohawk of the Native American Rights Fund. Local NAWAC members, after much discussion at recent meetings, felt that it was necessary to establish a kind of pilot group in the Bay Area whci would incorporate for funding purposes. Ann Rosenthal has written a proposal for funds which will provide for the day-to-day NAWAC business, as well as for helping local NAWAC groups across the nation to establish themselves. In this way, each NAWAC local will address itself to local problems and not be, except loosely, attached to and controlled by a central organization. OUR CORRESPONDING SECRETARY MARGUERITE VEY, Senca has arrived from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has done wonders in organizing NAWAC paper work in the last month, as well as having done a great deal of girl-friday detail at DQU--all free gratis. Marguerite hopes eventually to enroll in school in the Bay Area to finish her bachelors degree (she has finished three years at the University of Pennsylvania). All NAWAC correspondence may be addressed to Marguerite at 4339 California St., San Francisco, Ca.
