DESKAIDE        THE SILENT SECRETARY   1942

TUESDAY

Fair & cool. In the morning made a good blueberry pie ( Mother made one yesterday). did German etc. (Snooks rabbit/ate some milk and clover & is (?} quite active.)IN the afternoon after lunch I went to Mabel's(on bike) and we walked over to a friend of her's house-Joan Campbell- rich but tomboyish (very) and nice 13-looks younger. We played lots of card games and at 4:55 I rushed to the library to see if "Out of the Night" had come in-it. It hadn't and the library closed at 9.pm instead of 5:00. Phew. (I had run all way).  So I went back to Joans & we went (Mabel and I) to Mabels. I got my bike and rode home had super and went to Mabel's to go to K.C(Knights of Columbus Catholic/Carnival.-walked.  When we got there two women friends of Mabels pd. our way and their 2 small (5-8) yr.old sons on the Ferris Wheel. Fun {?} etc.

WEDNESDAY

Fair & cool.  In the morning I went to store, did German, etc. and Mother & Dad painted side porch screens and Dad went to store (on foot) to get an axe, (his broke) meat & doughnuts and flat iron cord.(old one warn out).  In the afternoon we went to the pond-get this at 2:10 and got home at about 5:30. We went in once for it wasn't very warm-only about 5 in, few sunning. We sunned some and started home around 4:35. I got a 10¢ ice cream- I have got to lay off one day this week.  She got a 10¢ one too- maple walnut,2 dips in honeycone- good. I ride with one hand most of the time now,-to stop on level ground to pond, etc.- right hand on bell side
Mabel went to get her bike tag today but couldn't. I wore my new bathing suit for 1st time.
