DESKAIDE * THE SILENT SECRETARY * 1942

OCTOBER

SATURDAY

Fair. My leg is a little better but I was very restless last night, woke at 1:45. I did German about all day. I didn't finish the chapter 4. In the afternoon I walked around a bit to Bobby's. I can walk without dragging my foot but can't bend my knee - about same swelled. I can't bear to sit down in a chair, stand still, feet I can walk + lie or sit with feet stretched out. Carolyn came over in the evening - she got her 1st permanent today - pretty.

SUNDAY

I had a restless night - woke up at 1:45 again.
Cloudy. My leg is about the same. I finished the 4th Herman chapter all morning + after lunch did Geometry. Then I walked around some with Bobby + went to see Joan - she is better but pale + has kidney trouble - a kind of diabetes I think - can't eat candy. [[crossed out]]We[[/crossed out]] She went to the hospital twice + is up more but not out. She showed us her scrapbook of get well cards (She has a lot of cute ones), then Dolores + Carolyn and Bobby + I went to my house + played cards (war - lots of fun). When Carolyn and Bobby had left, Dolores (she is going to make curtains from paper beads + I made paper beads til she went home. Then I ate + listened to radio.
