+ BIG WASHINGTON FLOOD!!

DESKAIDE THE SILENT SECRETARY 1942

OCTOBER
17
SATURDAY

Cloudy but cleared up. In the morning I fed fish, dusted, etc. until before lunch when I went to Dolores's and we went to several houses trying to get jobs taking care of children - a woman wrote us down to call on when she needed us. After lunch we picked up Dolores (her mother didn't want her to go - her mother doesn't want her to go anywhere or have fun much - or get clothes - she never goes out herself - poor Dolores is fussed at & fusses all time) & went to Georgetown to see the flood. Water Street was flooded & one bridge to island (in river between Memorial & Rosslyn bridge) - island was about flooded too. Then we went home & Dolores & I talked til about 4:30 when
