DESKAIDE * THE SILENT SECRETARY * 1942

FRIDAY

Fair. I went to school as usual.
[[strikethrough]] after [[/strikethrough]] Dottie forgot the money.
She'd better pay me. I got A+
in the Geometry test + A [[strikethrough]] + [[/strikethrough]] in [[right margin]] A [[/right margin]]
the Gym test!! [[strikethrough]] (or [[??]] I forgot
which) [[/strikethrough]]
After school I went on the
bus to the [[strikethrough]] [[??]] [[/strikethrough]] YWCA +
did homework, etc. til mother
came over for me + we went to
Woman's University Club where
Dad, Miss Colcord + Miss Hawke
met us + we had dinner - I had
ham, potatoe, Lima beans
avocado (I didn't eat - tastes
awful) + tomato salad +
ice cream + cake and milk. Then
we talked + came home - got
home at 9:30 - rode on bus.

SATURDAY

Fair. At 9:30
Dolores came
over + we waited
for a bus for a
long time. Then
we walked to Clarendon (mother
told me to ride to save my leg.)
Dolores has 2 other brothers - a
boy of 9 who can not go to school
because he has had hemi[[strikethrough]] [[??]] [[/strikethrough]]plegia
from birth, and a boy of 20 who
works in navy yard. We met Rita
there + took bus to Washington -
we got there + went to the museum
where we looked around, then
to art (Mellon) Gallery. Then we
ate at ↑[[up arrow to Mellon]] - 25¢ for me (salad,
milk (6¢), pie), 20¢ for them, one
milk. Then she waited at while
we walked to shopping district -
I got a blue belt, 2 nighties for Grandma
+ Mrs. Barry + a 5¢ note notebook
for me. Dolores tried at two stores
to get shoes for Cadets. (she is in
at Washington Lee) + a cute gold dog
with her name on it (28¢)

Then we went home. I
