Fair & warmer. In the morning I stayed home, worked around house & did most all my homework & all practicing. After lunch Dolores came over & we went to the store on my bike. Then we came home & went to Clarenden on my bike. Dolores got a 32¢ glass powder bowl with powder & puff with donkey on top and a 49¢ box of nice stationary. For her little brother (John Cary) was a cute little nightgown - pajama like with flowers on it - 79¢ & cute - size 2. She got some cards - thank-you cards for flowers, etc. for funeral. - 24 for $1.00 & some wrapping paper. All I got was a jar of apple butter, a loaf of bread & a dish cloth for mother - not presents, of course. We were quite tired & took turns riding home - had left bike at Mr. Kennedy's gas station. After supper I wrote more to my book, "Guiding Light" which I started yesterday.

DESKAIDE * THE SILENT SECRETARY * 1942

DECEMBER 13 SUNDAY

Fair & very cold. In the morning I went to Sunday School (Christian) on Pershing Drive. I was only 1 in my class - Dolores not there. At home I fixed up cards and some packages. After that I went to Dolores's. I helped her wrap packages. She wanted to come over but her mother wanted her to stay home & keep her company. So around 5:00 I went home, ate, and washed my hair, etc.
