MINNIE EVANS

so much of things of what it represent.

N.H.S. Tell me who are you talking about? Just a minute and tell me how he comes to the gate and talks to you and when he comes to the gate and what he does. Tell me about him and what his name is.

M.E. It's Mr. Wilbert Corbett. He's very interested in my paintings cause he sees so much in them and I have let him have, because he was my boss, two pictures. He says Minnie I wouldn't take no price in the world for them. He says they means so much to me. He says he sits down to himself and he look at them and he says what he think of them. He says they mean a lot in his life and I don't know and just what his life is but he says he just sees them and he just sees them and he just thinks that they are beautiful and he love them and then I talk to him a lot we do. We talk about the Bible and different things and he see a lot he say of the Bible in my pictures. He say God didn't give you this for nothing. He says he give you this because he thought you was worthy of having this talent. He says it's a wonderful talent for you and I enjoy him coming and talking with me and he is the only one of them that will come. Some of the young ones will come and bring their friends to look at the pictures over but not to talk with me like Mr. Wilbert. I enjoy having him talk with me. And then he kept me about one picture something or the other very interesting and then he come the next week and then he would say, 'Minnie, do you remember what I said to you about a picture last Sunday'? It was so funny. I would say no I don't remember. I can't because he be talking to me sometimes and I forget it before he get through talking. I tell him I'm ole and forgetful. I tell him my brains is getting bad. He said no there's nothing wrong with your brains. Anybody can do this their brains is alright. I say what make me forget so much? He say that's just your mind. I say (laughter) you have so much of other things on your mind.

N.H.S. How old is this Mr. Wilbert Corbett? Do you know what he does? What does he do? Does he work in Wilmington?

M.E. Oh yes. He's part the owner of the gardens. I don't know his age but he's married and has four head of children I think and he's part owner of the garden and they have a great big business. Course he's a very nice educated man. Fine, and he sees so much different in life than what the rest you know people see. He's very fine and I think a lot of him.
