MINNIE EVANS

NHS: Who is your pastor?

ME: He isn't here now. My pastor that told me that is not our pastor now. He is Rev. C.J. Rev. Humphrey. Rev. Humphrey was my pastor. A.T. Humphrey and he was the one that told me about the lions. Of course I read in the Bible about the lions of the tribe of [[strikethrough]] Judah [[/strikethrough]] St. Jude and to put it exactly that was my dream then of the lions. I haven't had another beautiful dream like that since.

NHS: When did you have that dream?

ME: It was in '67. [[strikethrough]] It was in [[/strikethrough]] This is Dec. '68 but I waited nearly 8 or 9 months before I decided to paint. To make the paintings of them. See they are pasted on. I had -

NHS: Why did you paste them on? Why didn't you paint them on the canvas? Why did you paste them on?

ME: No, they were too large for me to handle to make a real picture of them to look like lions. That's why I taken an extra piece of paper and painted the lions' head then paste them on and painted on the rest of the board.

NHS: Have you ever seen a lion? Have you ever seen a live lion?

ME: Oh, yes I've seen live lions lots of times, at circuses. But afterwards I used real thin paper. The paper real thin

NHS: Does that stick better? The real thin paper does it stick better?

ME: It sticks on because the paper was thin

NHS: Yes, yes

ME: that I painted it on. So it wouldn't budge or you know

NHS: Why did you put these claws down there? Do you remember? The lions' claws?

ME: I don't know why I did it but it just come to me to do [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] that like it was [[strikethrough]] to paint this [[/strikethrough]] the lion's [[strikethrough]] claw [[/strikethrough]] paw. (laughter).

NHS: I like those angels with the wings of butterflies. The angels' wings are butterflies down on the lower

ME: That's what I would, [[strikethrough]] that's [[/strikethrough]] why I put butterflies on my pictures. Sometime I have to. I think sometime, once upon a time some nation [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]] what you call idolized butterflies. We've had girls and boys that I dream, that I read about that has made a fortune on butterflies
