MINNIE EVANS 6

talk with me like Mr. Wilbert. I enjoy having him talk with me. And then he kept me [[strikethrough]](unclear)[[/strikethrough]] about one picture something or the other very interesting and then when he come the next week and then he would say 'Minnie, do you remember what I said to you about a picture last Sunday?' It was so funny I would say no I don't remember I can't because he be talking to me sometimes and I forget it before he get through talking. I tell him I'm ole and forgetful. I tell him my brains is getting bad. He [[strikethrough]]would say[[/strikethrough]] said no there's nothing wrong with your brains. Anybody can do this their brains is alright. I say what make me forget so much? He say that's just your mind. I say (laughter) you have so much of other things on your mind.

NHS: How old is this Mr. Wilbert Corb[[strikethrough]]i[[/strikethrough]]ett? Do you know what he does? What does he do? Does he work in Wilmington?

Me: Oh, yes. He's part the owner of the gardens. I don't know his age but he's married and has four head of children I think and he's part owner of the garden and they have a great big business. Course he's a very nice educated man. Fine, and he sees so much different in life than what the rest you know people see. He's very fine and I think a lot of him. Very intelligent and what he use to do he use to bring the lieutants and captains of the Ft. Bragg and introduce them to me and to see my pictures years ago. That's been more than about fifteen years ago.

NHS: What kind of pictures did you give him? What were they like? How big were they?

ME: Oh, I gave him two. One out of my angel book. He wanted it very much and he saw a couple of others that I had and I can't remember the looks of them until I see them. One thing about these you look at them today and you can't remember them unless you see them. Then you can remember that you did them.

NHS: Wait a minute. Where's that painting. Do you want to tell me about that one? You hold it. Tell me about it.

ME: I just. I don't know why we did three faces in this statue like this. But I did it somewhere, sometime some nation or nother this picture, this was a statute of it.

NHS: Statue?

ME: It was. And [[strikethrough]]every since[[/strikethrough]] represent

NHS: This was the statue is it?

ME: Yes.

NHS: Three heads of a statue.

ME: That's right. I think this is a king and his two wives. That's what I think. Oh, I had this pasted on to that page between the boards . I see. That's very beautiful .

NHS: [[strikethrough]]Do[[/strikethrough]] you don't want to tell me anymore about it? Now what's this?
