2. Name, in the order of their importance, the accessions of the year which deserve special notice, and state in each case whether given, lent, received in exchange or purchased.

The most important accessions, especially from containing no waste material are those due to the generosity of the Rev. L. J. Chamberlain[[?]] who, as in past years, has contributed by the purchase of desirable material, especially in the line of Unionidæ and other species filling gaps in the Lea Collection as well as much needed publications bearing on the same subject. The most important single lot of these comprised 232 species and over 700 specimens from the well known Sallé collection recently sold in Paris.

Next in importance comes a series of 200 species and 315 specimens purchased to complete the series exhibited at Nashville, all of which were additions to the reserve series, supplying many deficiencies.

Third may be [[strikethrough]] [[reckoned]] [[/strikethrough]] mentioned a [[strikethrough]] lot [[/strikethrough]] quantity of material received from the U.S. Fish Commission, contained in about 488 jars and vials, are comprising about 5700 specimens, among these are many desirable additions to our series of North Pacific mollusks, chiefly in alcohol.
