12. Please present any plans which you have in view for the development of your department.

The first necessity is the continuation of our regular work until all arrears are catalogued labelled and arranged for reference, the Jeffreys and Verrill collections finally administered upon and duplicates wholly eliminated from the reserves. This at the present rate of progress will take some years, owing to the great pressure of current work.

From time to time, when available, the services of special students of particular groups should be utilized to bring the nomenclature and arrangement of such groups up to date. The material so treated will increase in value and the usefulness of the Museum be much enhanced. I would suggest that during the coming year, Mr. H. A. Pilsbry be requested to revise the Chitons, of which the Museum has a magnificent collection, but in large part named wrongly or not at all. Which renders it very difficult to meet the frequent requests for the identification of critical or unknown species.
