It will require our utmost efforts to prevent the vessel from beaching at high water.  Blows in fierce squalls all day with a short lull about noon; succeed in getting the vessel out where she is not likely to ground at low water.  P.M. partly clear wind shifts a little more southerly and becomes more steady toward sundown.  Get her finally out into the stream where she can lie safely to our great relief - 9 P. Ther. 53. 56. 51 Bar. 29.900.  Half cloudy, gale blowing as hard as yesterday or nearly so, increasing in strength as the tide rises which I have observed to be usually the case here.  No improvement at night though the afternoon is a little more moderate than the forenoon.  9.P.M blowing hard. bar. 30.000.
