Ther. 46.5 45. 43 - Bar. 29.742.
Rainy, strong westerly wind rather puffy with a disagreeable lumpy cross sea. Toward night shifts to SW blowing heavy and bar. falling slightly, double reef [[to?]].  9 P.M. bar 29.754 has risen a little, weather a little improved.  Cloudy, raining.

Wednesday Sept.11
Ther. 44.5. 50. 43. Bar. 29.700. Strong S by W wind with a good deal of sea running.  Sky half cloudy - Occasionally rain - squalls and about noon one snowsquall. at noon we have made during the preceding 24 hours a distance of 196 miles, about as much as the Humboldt is capable of doing in that time, I think - wind in P.M. W by N. 9 P.M. bar. 29.740.

Thursday Sept 12
Bar. 29.870. Ther. 43. 54, 45.  Sky half cloudy, fresh W by N wind - vessel making fair time on her course at noon this day we are a fourth of the distance toward San Francisco, which is from Kodiak to the [[Fanalones?]] 1700 miles Night stormy, rainy, squally wind which had shifted to nearly S returns to SW.  Bar. 9 P.M 29.756 goes down later to 29.680
