To office in A.M. No letters. Write till church time. then go to hear Stebbins. Then back to office & write letters. Then to Capt. Noyes to dine & spend evening. 
 
Monday Oct 21
Morning, exchange shoes. Go to office and then down to the vessel with Stearns & Kaufman. Get the latter a sextant and the horizon & nautical almanac for 1872. Back to office & work over dip obs. Get a lamp from the vessel & some oil &c to work with at night. Evening. Academy meeting. go up to Club with Benj. Smith & Horace Davie and round with Stearns to his house & then back to room
