The principal work accomplished in the Department of Marine Invertebrates of the U.S. National Museum, during the year 1881, was about as follows:

Progress made in the Museum. 

During the past year, all the material placed under my care has been examined, in order to ascertain, and, so far as possible, better [?] condition. The mollusea found in the table cares in the main hall of the Smithsonian building have not been disturbed, as they were [moving?] in good order.
