USA., A.A.A.G. Respectfully returned to Bvt. Brig. Genl E. Whittelsey A.A.A.G. inviting attention to the enclosed copy of application for transportation dated July 22"1868. It will be noticed that the application includes, among other names "[[Betsey?]] Jackson, Joe Smothers and Betsey Smothers" it is believed that these are the same people with those named in application of 13" inst. herewith returned. The transportation tickets are at the Office at F.V. and will be forwarded for cancellation. Henry Schweitser, to recover the sum of $13 +c" referred from Hd Qrs. A.C.D.C. to this Office with the following endorsement. Bureau R.F.+A.L. Hd Qrs Ass't Comr D.C. Washington, Sept. 11" 1868. Resp'y referred to Maj J.V.W. Vandenburgh, Agent +c in connection with papers in the same case, referred to him April 16" 1868. The records of this Office show that a settlement of this claim ($7 50/100 half the original amount) had been agreed upon and Major Vandenburgh ordered to collect the money, & send it direct to Col S.P. Mr Schweitser (to this date) has been unable to pay the Amount ($7 50/100) agreed upon, to settle this claim of Lewis G. Mitchell on account of sickness in his family, and lack of employment.
