Colonel
Many requisitions are being recd at the intelligence office under my charge from various portions of the north for farm hands, house servts, and laborers of every kind. The local demand here is so great that we can not fill these requisitions. I am directed by Col. Eaton Asst Comr of this Dist. to address you with a view to ascertain what number of Freedmen could be furnished this office from Richmond Homes can readily be procured for at least 100 women and the same number of men the demand is greater for women without children.

Dear Sir

Your letter to Genl Howard making inquiry concerning a house servt having been refered to me I have the honor to state that at present it is impossible to furnish you the kind of Servt you desire. The local demand here is so great that many requisitions in this city are unfilled. Arrangements are being made by which we will be enabled to fill requisitions from the north I will then address you. You will have to pay the cost of Transportation from here to Massachusetts
Very respectfully &c.
