I have the honor to refer the case of John Smith & Saml. Roswell to you as I understand their case to be one of those which comes under you jurisdiction
It seems that they have been victimized at some snake show on the Ave. The case has been in Days hands & I believe taken before some magistrate Thinking it a criminal case I refer it to you with the request that the parties committing the offence be punished If I am mistaken as to jurisdiction please
send the parties back to me

Yours of the 1st making inquiries relative to the Employment of twenty five men to work on Rail Road has been received I think that the number can be easily raised. Will you please inform me how long you wish these
men to work the wages that you will pay them &c

also whether you will transport them from here, there or whether you will expect them to furnish their own transportations. If you desir these men will endeavor to secure them for you upon your notifying me. 
Should we do so there will be a fee of $1.00 each according to the established rule of this office. An answer is respectfully Solicited

I called upon you some two or three weeks since in reference to some claim presented against you by Stephen Jones, Chas Smith. Richd. Thompson, Joshua Pry Jno Blackburn Spencer Coleman & Wm. Brown. You
acknowledged the a/c & promised to endeavor to pay them that day & that if you could not do so then you would the 1st of September. I now request you to settle with these men. If you do not the necessary steps will be immediately taken to cause you to pay them. Hoping that you will attend to this matter immediately & save yourself much 
trouble.
