Jas Wood. Alfred Walker, Burkel Brooks & Richd Thomas state there is coming to them respectively the sums of $17.50 $36.50 $54 & $54 for services rendered on board the steamer John Druny. I have the honor is refer their statement to you with the request that if it is correct that you pay them. if not correct please furnish me a statement of the case

Your Communication to Mr. J B Clark of 8th inst was this day referred to this Office. In answer I will state for your information that a part or all of the men asked for can be procured through this office. You please state the amount of wages that will be paid per day or month. Some party must appear to enter into contract with the men. You please inform us how soon the men will be wanted & if they can be forwarded in parties of 20 or 30 until the whole number is furnished

In reply I would state that it is impossible to fill your requisition at present on account that the local demand is greater than the local supply. Should we at any time be able to furnish you the servants you desire we will notify you so that you can be supplied
