R.A. No. 1487. O.L.S. D.C.

Resp'y returned, disapproved. This man Wm J. Jones was employed in this city but left his place to go to New London, Ct. Tis not the object to grant transportation to those who are employed but to such as are destitute & unable to get employment. This man is not one of those cases, as all the rest of this party paid their own fare when they found that transportation had not be received.I opine that this one could do the same thing.
You are misinformed in regard to their borrowing money. They did not do so. I was at the Depot and saw the whole transaction.

Resp'y returned. from further investigation of the enclosed case it has been ascertained that Mrs. Jones has but one child 6 years of age. She is a healthy ablebodied woman, has plenty of work makes $5 per week washing, says she had to support her husband when with him, that he is a lazy and abusive man, and she has no desire to live with him again. I think she is undoubtedly self supporting.
